Need a little of advice

i need a little of advice on a serious level so if youre in high school or aren't experienced enough in real world situations please dont respond.

over the summer before my current senior year of college i highly considered a job in the united staes service, more particularly the naval branch. this was mostly because of certain opportunities that can come up through being in the service, and the honor associated with it wuold make myself proud.

the chances of myself being offered a real job in the real world, something that i could do for forty years before retiring, came up, and i accepted the job. its with a great accounting firm in new york city, and there are many travel/placement opportunities, and opportunities to move both horizonatally and vertically within the system. ever since accepting their offer, i have been thinking about the big apple and all the great things that come associated with it.

however as of late, i began to wonder whether or not i made the right choice in regards to my immediate future. one path sets me up for some pretty sweet government employment opportunities, and the other sets me up to make some serious cash in the private sector.

basically what im asking is for some outside analysis, and what your opinion might be on the situation.

please no bullshit.

well this accounting job seems pretty good if you enjoy that at all. it sets you up for a good future, you'll have good money and if you work hard you'll just keep moving up.

at the beginning it will be boring, but itll be worth it in the end

i'm assuming you went to school for accounting, so why not do what you know?

but i don't know you so all i can say is try to live with no regrets.

dont necessarily do accounting just because you went to school for it, do whats in your heart man.

i hope you make the best decision for yourself in the end.

first things first, do you have any solid reasons why you shouldn't take the job? Do you have, or do you plan on getting your CPA?

i finished grad school with a masters in accounting and worked with DFAS for awhile on a systems implementation and the government is a great place to work. i ended up leaving because i would be relocated and my girl is a doctor with an established practice. it was easier for me to start something new than it was for her to try and build a new practice.

bottom line, it's a great place to launch your career. even if you only work there for 5 years, it's going to be great for your resume. i wouldn't even think twice about not moving forward with this opportunity.

do what you want and do what feels right. people dont stress that enough. not only will you be much happier, but in the long run it will bring you more success if you keep doing what feels right for you.

I'd say stick with what you are doing now. If it's leading you down the right track, and has a promising future why not stick with it?

You may never have the opportunity to have this job again if you leave and join the forces.

Sounds like you made a great decision - navy or something would be ill, but probably not pay as well and would be a bit higher risk. PLUS you'd be away a lot probably, as opposed to just working and living in once place.

A job with good pay at an accounting firm sounds like it would be a great opportunity, especially if you think you'll get to move around in the company.

In the end, there are a lot of life experiences in the navy that you won't experience through accounting, but in the end they're just different paths. The money you make from your accounting job will probably allow you to do some pretty cool things in the future. Money doesn't buy happiness, but it does help you do some cool stuff.
