Can cops bust a party cause of a tip?

so my friend is throwin something tonight. his house is wayyy up in the woods, and the driveway is super long so theres no chance of a noise complaint or a cop driving by on chance. however, these is this super annoying kid who wasn't invited and was making a big deal about it. then some kids (who were coming) were being cocks and talkin about it like right in front of him to piss him off. anyway, the annoying kid is the type of kid who would like call the cops and tell them he knew there'd be a party with underage drinking at XXX address. i doubt he's going to do that, but on the chance that he did, is that enough to allow a cop to come snooping up this kids driveway wayy up in the woods and ruin everybodys night?
im wondering if i want to just chill at home with my gf..

well lets say a cop shows up and says that he wants to come in, even though he doesnt have a warrant or reasonable cause. you say no, because you dont want him to (for whatever reason). the cop them walks back to his cruiser and radios back to the station and says that he thinks you are hiding something and have reason for the cops to not be there, so he gets his warrant and comes inside.

cops can get into your house if you want them to, so dont depend on little loopholes in the law to keep them out.

you should probably just lynch the rat and have your party the next day

I possibly may not be judging your sarcasm right... but would this work? On a separate note, If i'm on my land riding my dirt bike and I get a noise complaint and the cops show up but I have a no trespassing sign, that won't stop them will it?

cops can "bust" a party regardless of how they found out about it, why they're there etc.
the end result just plans on how you handle them being there.

actually we do it at a friends house who throws pretty big parties all the time..and the cops drive by not hearing anything so yea its worked multiple times for us..

lol @ some replies...BUT

a cop can enter without a warrant if they have a tip or any reasonable suspicion. Cops really can just make up suspicion, such "seeing" alcohol, hearing people, or seeing cars, and bam, they're in your house. Getting a call tipping them off is reasonable suspicion. Even if they needed a warrant, they can get that within fifteen minutes.

I've been "busted" at a friends house when we weren't drinking. Someone called an anonymous hotline and the cop entered her house, when we were clearly not drinking and there were three of us and he tried to tell us we were having a party because the neighbor had a lot of cars in their driveway.

SO the point is, just invite the kid if you're seriously that worried. Cops can do what they want and how they want to.

gee aint that awesome? i grew up with OFFICERS all my life. small town, lots of party busts but the few longest members of the force, including the sheriff. they DON'T need a warrant to speak to the owner of a household.

half of that response isn't an actual sentence.

all i can gather is that you family probably has some friends in law enforcement. but fine play this out for me.. cops show up based on an anonymous, they are pretty certain people are inside, but the people are inside are pretending to not be there. can the police do ANYTHING?

not true. a week or two ago i was at a party of all uni student, so no underage drinking. well over 300 people showed up, had a dj and everything. 11:15 and 8 cop cars show up. 8! and kick everyone out. They plain out used the excuse that is was a fire hazard. But they for sure got noise complaints cause you could hear it like 4 blocks away. but that kinda backfired since everyone piled out onto the street and just partied there, and t=it would have been 10x louder for everyone around.

yes because in the court of law, they do not need a warrant to talk to the owner of the house based on reasonable suspicion because they don't actually ENTER the house. reason you're fucked if you're all MIP is that they only need reasonable suspicion to suspect there's a crime going on (underage drinking), which can be anything from alcohol on the breath of the person (very easy to detect) or various other potentially obvious signs.

the reason we do it is because the kid has had the cops called on him twice and if he gets them called again he gets arrested..so out of respect for the kid throwin the party..we shut up for like 5 minutes..its not so hard..

all i had to do when the cops came to my house is say sorry , i have everything under contol and i will keep it down, (beer in hand, drunk as fuck, wearing a toga, just finished smoking a joint in the basement when the doorbell rang. im 17 with about 25-30 other underage kids in the house).  if you polite and act like your not super hammerd, dont let them in and block the veiw of inside you should be golden.

also everyone should keep in mind while calling each other morons and whatnot, different police departments operate differently from state to state and town to town, even specific communities have diferent rules and laws regarding this...another thing is, all law looks pretty black and white on paper but when the police actually arrest someone, they are in total control. you mouth off, you might get hit, and get charged for assaulting and officer and resisting arrest. blah blah blah, just dont be an idiot you should be alright

not going to tell people off for what they believe is law...but like its been said, not answering the door can bring several different outcomes. getting a warrant is not as simple and doesnt happen as quickly as some may think it does, especially to search someones house on reasonable suspicion. saying its impossible is outlandishly stupid, saying everyone is for sure fucked is likewise not a smart statement. moving onward...to trepassing. a sign that clearly states no tresspassing must be obeyed, by civilian and law alike. maybe youll get fucked, maybe not again. but from my personal experience and experiences from several different friends, my friends and i have called out officers and sheriffs before on tresspassing. after an illegal procedure is pointed out, anything thereafter becomes dismissable because of said illegal procedure. but what do i know, i live in montana. shit is different anywhere you go

yeah but people don't get it that they don't need a warrant just to talk to the owner of a household... warrants are NEVER an issue or even applicable in situations dealing with underage drinking... that's just fucking stupid to think that. yeah, they need a warrant to bust an underage party... grow the fuck up. and no, that wasn't directed towards you.
