Ipod touch help

I have my friends Ipod touch, but when I plug it in it says I have to sync to play music. Is there anyway to play it without syncing? Because I thought syncing deletes the files on it? I also want to rip the off with Irip. Any help much appreciated.

I have had the same problem. on the left menu on itunes, click on the ipod stuff, and somewhere in the tabs for it, not too sure where, but there should be a box that says "automatically sync when plugged in" or something like that, and just uncheck that box and it should work, i think
