As shown through examples above, paying employees more increases overall moral and productivity. This then brings in more revenue for the company who can then lower prices on goods and services and increase employment.
"I'll give you guys a REAL world example of how manipulating wages affect productivity & efficiency.
Problem # 1: At the resort I work at we only pay a very small percentage of our ski patrol. The guys we pay are awesome. They have ropes and signage up where it needs to be well before we have to open the mountain and after that, they actually PATROL and love their jobs. The problem we have with patrol is that the people that we don't pay, at a certain point, they just stop giving a fuck. Free lift tickets is no longer appealing enough to them to warrant a legitimate effort on a regular basis. So lets say we get 75% effort from our volunteers at any given time. If we paid them what they are worth, theoretically we could reduce our patrol staff by at least 25% and have a better 'product' to offer the customers. Job creation!!!
Problem # 2: Traditionally the crew that I manage have been seen by upper management as worth minimum wage. I get complaints EVERY YEAR about how any other job that requires the same amount of physical labor gets paid way more. This may be true but in the eyes of my CEO/GM that is not the case. So how do I MAKE them worth more money to the resort? Next season I'll most likely be cross training them in multiple different departments such as lifts & patrol as first responders. I did a test of these ideas this past season and paid returning employees just a quarter more. I saw a huge increase in efficiency and was able to hire about 40% less unmotivated slackers. Bonus!"
Read it.
I don't think you read the whole thing, so I'm going to quote part of it again:
