When Two Worlds Collide (trailer) from Yachaywasi Films on Vimeo.
SYNOPSIS
Against the backdrop of global recession and the climate crisis, When Two Worlds Collide traces the heroic journey of a young indigenous leader forced into exile after resisting environmental ruin of Amazonian lands by big business. Falsely accused of insurrection and sedition by the Peruvian Government he faces 20-years in prison.
After almost one year in exile, Alberto Pizango returns to Peru to face trial and discovers himself nominated to lead the first ever Amazonian political party. This feature-length documentary follows the Amazonians in their quest against all odds to save the rainforest and attempt to enter the world of politics. This extraordinary story reveals the human side of conflicting visions and political wills working to shape the future of the Amazon and of an already debilitated global ecosystem.
STATUS OF PROJECT
When Two Worlds Collide is an independent feature length documentary film currently in production. We hope to have the documentary completed early 2012.
HOW WILL YOUR SUPPORT HELP?
Your generous donations will be used to help film imminent events and enable us to follow key characters vitally needed to tell this story.
The funds will cover:
- Extensive travel costs (including shoots within the Amazonian Rainforest and Lima)
- Hire of equipment and additional crewmembers (sound man, editor etc.)
While we wait to hear back from funders for completion funding -expected in May/June 2011 - we are seeking bridging production funds to help us create this compelling documentary, which continues to manifest itself in surprising and unexpected ways. With your help via Kickstarter we won't miss any of the imminent developments and events ahead. We wish to bring to the world one of the most important climate change and human rights narratives of our time.
HOW YOU ARE CONNECTED
Despite a chorus of warnings from climatologists who say that we are swiftly approaching irreversible climate change, tropical deforestation is responsible for about one-fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions - more than all the cars, trucks, planes, boats and trains in the world combined.
The Amazon Rainforest provides us 20% of the oxygen we breathe, yet over 70% of the Peruvian Amazon is in the hands of international investors alone causing colossal deforestation! This massive land seizure, which generates significant dividends for domestic and international corporations, has a direct impact on the livelihoods’ of indigenous peoples' - the guardians of these lands.
We sought connection with the Amazonians, because they have shown themselves to be at the forefront of fighting climate change by conserving the global ecosystems, which feed life-giving cycles. We identify with the bio-diversity and climate science that says ‘without Rainforests, human beings worldwide will not have life as we now know it.’ Protect the indigenous interests and you protect the rainforest. To halt the ruin of our global oxygen cycle, the Amazonian voices must be heard. Help us vocalize their needs and the needs of the world.
