Mic for 7D. Help please!

Hello All!

I need to get a solid microphone for my 7D and really know very little about sound. I have very recently gotten a TV show picked up by a few smaller networks, so I need something that is capable of a sound quality good enough for television.... should I get a wireless mic or one that plugs into the camera? Our field crew is only 3 people to begin with as it is a low budget travel/adventure show so it needs to be something easily operable. I already have a Sony V1U with a solid shotgun mic on it... so keep that in mind as well.

If anyone has a depth of knowledge on these kinds of topics please let me know!

whats your budget, i know any of the rode mic's produce quality sound, but those range from 150-1000$

a 7D has auto gain control so anything plugged into the camera isnt great. grab a zoom h4n

so based off of this thread, do i need/should i get the videomic pro and then plug it into the zoom h4n...

is that how that works? would I need anything else?

and how do you wirelessly link you audio/video for easy editing capabilities?

(I know nothing about sound haha)

i dont know much about sound too
but im pretty sure you have to use a software to sync your audio and video in post if you use the zoom h4n.

You can also buy a xlr adapter like beachtek or juicedlink, but you have to find a way to disable agc (which i think you can only achieve by using magic lantern).

You dont even need the videomic, the zoom h4n works by itself.

You need to get a software that syncs sound. I know there is plural eyes, but I think a new and improved one has come out with a similar name. Look it up.

so would the overall consensus be that it is better to record audio & video separately and combine them in post with something like dualeyes, or to use magic lantern to disable agc and then just get a solid mic that can plug into the 7d....?
