My "un" sponsord-ness doesnt ever stop me from repping the brands that I love to spend money on. I used to be sponsored by my parents when they bought me skis, but now I am a hard working college student athlete, and my parents dont, "give" me money. I have worked very hard for everything that I have today including my 1998 GMC Jimmy. It runs like a champ.

I have to balance my school work and skiing appropriately in order for me to one day start my professional ski career out west. I'm a clinical exercise science major with a minor in psychology and my roommate from last year transfered to berkeley and is currently doing a PSY study with Harvard on the differences in mentality of Eastern vs Western Vs Mid-Western ski philosophy. Ski the East. Ski the West. iSki The Mid-West. (my buddy makes stickers if you want one $5 bucks)

I work two jobs every summer to pay for my ski equipment and to keep my car in working condition. half the money on car, half the money on food and water, and the other half on ski equipment.

Ski racing is expensive, and unlike most junior olympic racers, i bought my own skis and competed with the best of them.

I joined the ski team in high school just so I could ski more and I even brought my twin tips along on every occasion. Why? While some racers use twin tips to "slip the course" in, I used them to hit the park in between races. I got to ditch school early every week to go ski racing. You only have to race 2 times each time. One GS, one SL. I got pretty good pretty quick, so that became four, two in each discipline. That became time off my runs and sooner than I knew it I was "first seed".

Have you ever had to bite the bullet?

Its really scary. This means when you drop in first at a meet. Holy Sh*t this is the scariest thing ever. You have to set the pace for everyone to beat. Everyone is gunning for your time that you are about to set. Ready? Racer may go when Ready: click click shuffle shuffle shuffle exhale and BOOM! just like that you are out of the gate and you are skating as hard as you can towards that first gate. As soon as you can tuck you tuck as soon as you have to turn you turn. Ski racing is really fun because its really simple. Go around the poles as fast as humanly possible.

How do I do that?

Well first you need to learn how to wax your skis. Proper ski maintenance will get you far in the racing world. It will also get you "higher off the pipe than sean whites board waxer". I am going to take a random stab and say that he probably doesnt wax his own shit. if he does, bravo, but i still hate him. The rule should be: If you know how to wax your own skis, don't forget to do it. You would be surprised how long a park ski is made to last these days but only if you take proper care of them. Instead of thrashing our park skis lets at least make up for that by showing your bases a little love with some off colored p-tex to show off your core shots with pride. Maybe while you are down there give it a lil shlap and pickle and give your babies a little hot wax. maybe even a hot scrape if you are feeling kinky with it.
