Smokers

To people who consider themselves "smokers" : when did you start, why did you start and could you quit now if you wanted to? To non-smokers : what do you think of smoking and would you ever try?? I have really mixed opinions on the subject but generally I'm a real health freak so it is of no appeal to me.

Withdrawals are kind of similar to hunger. Your muscles are all tense and it feels like your blood is crawling. Your mind feels a little fuzzy and racy, and you get shaky.

The hardest part of quitting isn't the physical withdrawals though. It's the associated activities with smoking. Smoke breaks, smoking at bars, while driving, after eating. It just feels off for awhile without cigarettes. It's a mental crutch to compensate an oral fixation, similar to a pacifier.

Holy shit yes. I've quit before, it didnt last, but the hardest part of it was trying to stop associating it with things. For me, I smoke when i drive. So the way i stopped was i kept a pack of gum in my car and everytime i got in, instead of lighting up id pop in a piece of gum. It worked. Maybe i should start that again

i started in college. The fact that everyone here smokes, its enjoyable while drinking / smoking weed, its a good social tool (if you're outside a night club / bar its a great way to talk to random bitties; without all the noise interference.... can u say wheeeels). All that combined with the stress of a heavy workload.

I have an interesting personal theory on smoking; if you grew up around parents who smoke - you wont become addicted. My dad smoked since I was born, constantly, throughout my life. This is exposure to it; i believe; is why im not addicted at all. Seriously i could quit forever and care less.

Anyone else have the same sort of experience? with this^^.

i started smoking when i was 13, just got handed a cigarette by a friend at the skate park one day. honestly after the first one or two i was pretty hooked. felt way better and i can hardly remember that first buzz but it felt like money and i started smoking more. by 15 i was smoking a pack and a half a week and had no intentions of letting up anytime soon. 16 came two packs a week, and a year and a half later at 17, i talked myself into quitting and my girlfriend helped talk me into it also. smoking is probably one of the dumbest things ive ever picked up, considering i have nothing to show for it but shitty lungs, an out of shape body and im easily over two grand out after almost 5 years of smoking. im glad i quit, i went cold turkey for over 10 months now and in between ive had some bad fixes that only newport could help, and between june 2010 and now ive only bought 5 packs and bummed a little over a pack probably

Never have and never will smoke cigs. Shit is fucking disgusting and horrible. Possibly about as smart as hitting your dick with a hammer. Don't smoke weed. Find it pretty stupid, but I don't get condescending about it.

Had a couple cigars with a couple friends when feeling boss, but otherwise I'll steer clear of smoking shit for life.

I've tried both cigarettes and flavored cigars. Cigarettes are so damn nasty. I fucking hate cigarettes. Everytime someone lights up near me I will walk away. I can't stand the smell of them. It's such a dirty habit. Kids my age are smoke nearly a pack every two days. It's the stupidest thing ever. Flavored cigars are ok. I know they are worst then cigarettes, but I like the smell. I used to smoke like 3 a day with some buddies for a few months, then I just stopped buying them and quit since it was gross and I didn't wanna turn out like every other idiot who smokes.

i have only taken a few drags of cigs while being drunk. i've never gotten into smoking them because i just think of them as trashy thing. plus i hate the smell.

i have smoked a few cigars for special occasions. i think they taste and smell really good.

i smoked weed about once a week during most of my senior year and over summer. i never got into it though because it just makes me tired. i would just sit there and want to sleep. and the next day i would feel like a dumbass. but it was sometimes fun and my friend's brother was a dealer so he would always give us free bud. i stopped once school started because i felt stupid doing it and my friend's brother got arrested.

I did get into chewing last summer too. i found it to be relaxing and kind of badass(i know it's dumb) but i never did it that much, about 1 can a month. i never had a need or urge to chew and stopped buying cans once school started and haven't since.

almost everyone i know smokes weed, whether it's everyday or once a month so i deal with it a lot. i don't care if people smoke or chew as long as they don't try to get everyone to do it and are polite about it.

i smoke a cigar only when fishing by myself on an early morning. idk why but it just feels right. i think the grand total comes to about 5 a year. could not see myself smoking in any other situation, nevermind a regular basis.

Makes perfect sense, all the scientific research agrees with you. Because your dad smoked theres no possibly way you can get addicted, and because you only smoke regularly, you aren't addicted.

you can't say shit until you've tried it. I've been to the point where I smoke 5-10 grits a day- not out of addiction, but out of habit. For example walking to school and back, on the chairlift, on my break at work, etc.

It's a very relaxing and calming feeling to have that nicotine flowing, I recommend trying it. i actually slowed down a lot to the point where I feel no need to smoke anymore, but I found an unopened pack of Belmonts in McDicks after skiing today so I can't waste that shit..

I have the cravings, sure but when I feel like it I'll drop smoking altogether for months at a time, simply because I have short breath or a cough or something. Rugby season rolls around for example, and I'm feeling out of shape- put the smokes down for the season and resume when it's over.

i go for like a month with out one. and now... this week has been bad...

Started smoking little bits at a time when I was like 14? Then became a proper smoker when i was 15/16.. I'm now 17. I smoke because I enjoy it, not to destress myself due to lack of nicotine.

Everybodys immediate assumption if you smoke is that you're addicted. I was bet £10 that I couldn't quit smoking for 2 months. I won that bet, but people don't seem to understand why I started again saying 'well you might as well quit for good then..' So I guess I could quit if I wanted to, but I just don't want to.. Which is your average cliché smoker excuse.. Haha.

I started smoking when I was 12/13 due to peer pressure from older kids in school. I started because I thought it would make me cool, but now I enjoy smoking, I also enjoy rolling my cigarettes myself.
I'd say I am addicted, because if I havent had a smoke all day I just crave it like mad and become the most irritable, horrible person in the world.
I'm planning to quit when I'm older but one of the problems is I enjoy smoking too much to quit, I'd tried to quit a few times and always fucked up when I got drunk or whatever.

I had an ex-boyfriend who tried to get me to quit and I told him I wont quit for anyone but myself because it'll just end in disappointment, sneaking around, and him getting mad at me.

Loads of my friends do it so I've learned to tolerate it even though I wish they would think about what they're doing to their health. I don't hate on it though, it's their choice.

I occasionally smoke ze ganja but that's like every few months and at  parties, and i've smoked one cigarette in my lifetime lol.

Used to smoke the greenery, but was put on probation.
all my friends would still blaze, so i kinda just started smokin cigs when they were blazin.
that was almost 2 years ago.

I roll my own now, and i don't see myself quitting anytime soon. there's too much random shit that i can die from for me to worry about possibly getting cancer...

oh, and i'll throw in a lip every now and then just to refresh the buzz.

I can say all the shit I want without trying it. There are unlimited ways to allow the body to feel relaxed and calm without smoking cigarettes. There are no benefits to them.

Cancer is free for everyone, stop being one of the ignorant mother fuckers that pays for it.

Weed - yes i smoke occasionally, but it's rare simply because i'm not in college anymore and i'm not willing to waste money on it. i enjoy it and would do it more often if it was cheaper.

Cigarettes - yes i have smoked them before. I did it a few times throughout high school and college, just randomly for no particular reason honestly. Less than 10 times total probably and i wouldn't do it again. I don't like it, I don't see the point, it's a waste of time and money and makes you stink and unattractive. To the people who say, "i only smoke when i'm drunk"... you're fucking idiots and you can help it and just stop before you get addicted. it is grossly unattractive and stupid. i wouldn't even consider dating a smoker. and doubtful that i'd fool around with one. it grosses me out to no end.

I have no problem bumming one,thats what got me back into smoking afrer i quit. I cant buy a pack though, i just feel like shit after a couple but i think thats the menthol. Right now i have a pick of parliament lights only because they were out of american spirit blues

in all honesty, there is nothing i find less appealing than smoking. in the way of weed: i enjoy being in my right mind, so why alter it? and as for cigs: i'd rather not die of lung cancer.

i also find it extremely unattractive when girls smoke, regardless of what it is they're smoking.

just my opinions though.
