I plan on documenting my hiking and other outdoor ventures this summer. I need a camera that can shoot good video and great photos, yet still withstand water and abuse. this thing seems perfect. NS media people what are your thoughts??? anybody used a pentax? http://www.pentaximaging.com/digital-camera/Optio_WG-1_Black/
no, a t2i does not seem like the right idea. He wants a durable little camera that can withstand some water abuse. A DSLR rig is the opposite of compact and it is very fragile.
This was going to be my suggestion, it's just a bit heavier than you may want, but honestly, when it comes to quality of photos/videos and such, you won't care about the extra weight. And if you would like a light weight lens to go with it, try a 50mm prime. Small, light weight, but it may not balance a 7d very well. It's relatively cheap for the quality that you're getting also, only 130$ for the cheaper ones and 500 for a more expensive one, but obviously with the more expensive one you get a bit higher quality.
yep i would say 7D then if you want durability, good photos and good video. I have held my 7d out in rain storms and sandstorms and i have yet to have any problems with it. Its magnesium alloy body makes it very durable but also heavier than a t2i. Basically if you have a 7D then you wont ever be worried about little things like water and dirt/dust getting all over it.
7D is very weather resistant, although truthfully i've never been worried about my T2i. had it out in rain and all types of weather and it's always been fine.
however i think everyone needs to look at the OP's link. he's not looking for a DSLR, he's looking for more of a handy point and shoot.
Dont bother with a DSLR, get a Gopro if you want good quality image with no hassle of worrying about damage or anything. Its simple and gets the job done.
exact opposite is true for a party cam. Small, easy to bring, whip it out and shoot some lines is what you want. not something that's huge, you have to focus, looks terrible handheld, expensive components, needs it's own carrying case, or bangs you in the dick swinging from some fat fuckin strap diggin into your neck. Also the old school infared green tint shoot in the dark mode comes in handy.
what you meant was 1280x720. there are two kinds of 720p: 960x720 (which is what cameras like the HVX shoot at), and 1280x720, which gives you a true, 16:9 720p image.
you were just confusing 1280x720 with 1920x1080 and mixing the two
also, 720p can refer to either 960x720 or 1280x720
I have a pentax waterproof point and shoot like the one mentioned in the OP. It's not bad, but not great either. I usually shoot on a 7D, but I take this out when I don't feel like lugging around the huge camera and looking like a gaper tourist haha. Video quality isn't really that great, but the stills are fine. I think water proof cameras are generally lacking in quality compared to nice cameras with waterproof housings.
