Rallycross

Anyone ever done rally cross? Yesterday was my second time running in it. I ran my '01 Forester. Rallycross kicks so much ass.

That's actually exactly what rallycross is... you're probably thinking stage rally.
Can anyone who rallycrosses give me any information on how it effects your car? I'd like to go to some events in my daily driver but I don't want to wreck it.

I have a Subaru, I'll go and drive it around in a field and try to go faster then some other subarus.

Still doing it about once a month out here in the PNW. I have gone through a couple cars, last year i did it in my built wrx wagon. Now I am in my 99 daily driver wagon, and in the process of building a full stage rally car.

Be prepared to break stuff, suspension might get blown, power steering pump go bad (my dad had that happen), dented oil pan (happened to me last time). Etc. anything could break, but most of the time nothing does. Don't be afraid of going out there, just drive within your budget if you know what that means.

i dont know enough to comment on the hazards of rallycross, but look into autocross(same kind of thing but on cement) if you are wanting to push your car in a safe environment. Other than tire wear and maybe brake wear, it has almost no detrimental effects to your car

you may want to improve the cooling system in your car if you do this though.

Not really, you only drive in like minute long spurts, if your car can't handle that it probally couldn't handle regular street driving as well
disclamer I'm from vancouver so in really hot climates it may be differnt

Also just clarify for the thread there is two types of rally cross, the type top gear did with multiple cars on dirt track and the dirt equvilant of autocross which involes racing around a course set up with cones one at a time

This is more of autocross on dirt, instead of going to these events watching the same looking STI as the other go around go out on back roads that are full of loose dirt and have no cars on them. Its a lot more fun, when I had my 240 wagon I'd go out in the summer at night and floor it in the straights and slide the turns. Trust me it can be more fun with the right car.

It is very hard to find events like the one in Top Gear near me so I was referring to the Autocross on dirt kind because it is popular in Colorado
