which video camera for skiing?

Which video camera should I get? I was looking at those little black ones you hold udside down but cant find theme anywhere.

do u mean a camera with a handle on it? im not sure what your talking about but some relly good high quality dv cameras are the canon gl2, the sony vx1000, and the vx2000. i think panisonic also has some good 3 chip cameras as well.

yeah thats definitely cheaper with a whole editing set up... and knowing how to use it...

the kid asked for a camera with a handle on it, i dont think hes particularly educated on the subject... oh yeah, get an xl1...

that 16mm is nice. probably won't be able to read the instruction manual, though.

but yeah, if you want a miniDV cam with a handle, you're gonna end up having to buy one of the high end ones. mine is just some entry level JVC camera, but the screen flips and folds back to it's flush with the camera so you can look at the screen, but the camera lens is looking to your left (am i explaning this clearly?) so you can just face forward going down the hill, but can do a follow cam for whatever's on your left. i thought it'd be ghetto, but it actually works really well.

like that, but see how the screen can fold all the way back so you can be looking at it while going straight, but it's filming the stuff off to your left. i've did that all last season and it works really well.

I was thinking of one like that one in the picture above...would that be good in snow cuz my friend has one and it was raining once and it fucked it up so i dont know

well if you want a vx2000 or a 3 chip cam you gotta be willing to drop 2g...if you want one that is pretty good then youd be somewhere in the 600-1200 range.....canon opturas are around 1200 and those are great

I am hoping to buy a Canon Optura Xi. Its 2 CCD, but still has quality far surpassing that of our needs, and I can get a really good deal on it. It's a sweet camera, normally runs around 1,000$ though.

i got this and it works well. got it for 600 off ebay. usually is like 800-900. havnt tried for skiing, but is good for biking and skating so far so it should work.
i also came up with an idea for a handle that u connect to your tripod area. it should work. like itll look like a sideways u. like that. the bottom thing will have a screw to put in the tripod and goes around the cameraand u hold onto the top part. could work possibly. i prob wont follow through with it though. prob be good just holding it.

that camera by the way is a dcr-trv38

yeah something like twix would be cool...well my parents just got a digi camera with movie mode on it...i wonder if that would work for skiing

It'll get by, but the framerates are usually never that good, and the video is always choppy looking unless you shoot with a DigiCam of some sort.
