Versatile longboard?

This summer i plan on buying a longboard to pass time and have fun.
I long boarded before, but not on anything highquality. Soo, I need help finding a cheap, versatile (in a sense that it can carve/lightweight/cruise) and relatively durable, nothing special, for this summer.

Brands/links/video's, anything that would be helpful to narrow down my search would be great! Thanks.

you really have it out for bustin don't you?

do you have any proof of this insane damage that you speak of? i have two of my own and know numerous people with bustins, none of which have any complaints or premature damage. furthermore, the guys at bustin are notorious for their customer service. if anything like what you're saying did happen they would for sure send a free replacement. have you even ridden the maestro? the concave makes for the most solid foot pocket and easiest pushing on any board i have ridden, and i have ridden a lot of boards. its designed like that for a reason you know?

i have had similar issues. Ill see if i still have the board in my basement still and ill take some pics. They may have fixed the issues, i bought mine when the maestro first came out, but with my experience and a few others i know, i would stay away.

if you do have issues, i'd be interested in seeing them, but more importantly you should shoot the guys at bustin an email with pictures and i'm sure that they will do something about it.

this is from the makers of bustin boards on silverfish, the NS of longboarding.

"the interesting thing is that our manufacturer makes boards for several other brands, some of those being brands that Bustin haters claim to be so much better quality. the difference really comes down to materials, thickness and shape. i guess you could say we took a risk by running a 7-ply maple maestro, but we wanted to give people that light, flexy feel that we loved so much skating around new york. will this board hold up for everyone no matter what size, shape and kind of skating you do, no. will a 9 or 10 ply version, yes. will a 9-ply have a light, flexy feel, no chance. its unbelievable how often people compare this board to either a board that is thicker or a board with composites. btw, we're working on both because we understand that sometimes feedback can come across like sarcasm.

what i can't understand is whats with the beef? we've always stood behind our products and been fair with our customers in these situations. we number all of our boards and we're at about 6,000 currently. of that we've replaced 116 boards since we started numbering in 2004. is that too many? did all 116 people end up on here bashing us? is it a brand war thing? ford vs. chevy is earthwing vs. bustin? is it that we've gotten 'big'? if you haven't noticed, everyone is getting big because longboarding is getting big, at this point we're just trying to keep up with demand which is through the roof. is it that we're supposedly 'good' at marketing? i've been doing our ads myself since i drew the logo on the back of a scratch pad while not paying attention in class... i'm not good at marketing but thank you to everyone who claims we are 'just good at marketing and business'. For the record also, I didnt study business or marketing, and definitely not PR as you can see. i started making longboards because i'm addicted to riding and i'm addicted to the project of evolving the sport."

Longboards are pressed pieces of plywood, with the exception of foam cored and bamboo boards. And why would it matter where one presses a board? Alot of small companies, which usually have the higher quality, are built in peoples basements or garages.

yeah deck only. how are you spending more than that for wheels/ bearings?

shop at mile high skates kids... wheels cheaper than any place with free bearings.

What i dont understand is why you are forcing bustion boards on me. I have had bad experiences with them, and so have people i know. Im just giving my experience with certain boards so the OP can get an idea of what the board is like. Im pretty sure im entitled to an opinion. You have yours, I have mine

because its not very good business ethics to blindly bash a well established, very successful company AND promote your cause in the same breath. i don't care if your boards are made out of carbon fiber using unicorn semen as epoxy, it's just poor form.

oh, by the way, nike shoes suck, wait a couple weeks and i'll be able to sell some super sick home made shoes for $40 if anyone is interested.

I'm just letting you know that if your board really does have a manufacturers defect you can get a brand spankin new one for free. why wouldn't you?

Because i didnt like the board from the start, the flex was kind of wierd. OP, if you want it so you can send it in and get one, its yours if i still have it in my basement. My parents moved this year so i dont know if they brought it to the new house or they may have thrown it out, ill check though

Get a used rayne nemesis off your local longboarding forum and stop asking stupid fucking kids stupid fucking questions on NS.

Giantpanda has a couple things right, except wheels and trucks. Everybody else fails.

Get some s9 70mm racing formulas and you're set for wheels (be warned they wear fast when sliding but SMOOTH).

Pink powerballs are another good option. Retro freerides (green) and maybe 80a (white) landy zombies.
There are more options, but I'm not going to bother.

Trucks go with whatever you want, bears are not good for downhill. Personally I'd go with kalahani's or aera's but they're miles out of your price range, so stick to bears, paris or randal, they're all about the same. Paris aren't more "carvy" it depends on the bushings and baseplate angles you're running.

Stick with rayne, bamboo boards that are stronger and lighter.

Fuck NS really has no clue.

all i'm saying is that you are buying a 7 ply deck for 90 bucks, which is gaurenteed to fatigue at some point. there are plenty of ways too keep down costs and to achieve "that springy feel", but why settle for less when you can easily improve your product? I dont see bustin's logic, but whatever floats your boat i guess.

I have 2 Butsins and they both feel as good as the day i got them and im a 200lb guy, they are also releaseing the Maestro in a fiberglass model next week that is going to be more durable, even though as stated [reviously, I dont have durability issues, So get off your Loaded and Earthwing High horse and ride one.

I need help. Rayne vendetta with paris 180 trucks, otange stimulus 70mm wheeles and bones reds, for 285$ or bustin mastero 7 ply otange stimusls,bear grizzley, and bones for 242$? and do they put the board together when they send it to you?

The only company the uses Unicorn products and dragons blood is Soda Factory. Get one you wont be disappointed.

I know this is going to sound like bullshit, but my bhangra is sick for everything

its got purple stims and paris 180s and madrid fly paper

it slides, it carves, it dances and it pumps

it was a blem so i got a lot off of the price but it is still expensive, COMPLETELY WORTH IT

I prefer bamboo and fiberglass over the 7 plys of hardwood. The bamboo will be much lighter and a little more playful and maneuverable. It's all in personal preference, try to ride both. And rayne has much better build quality in my opinion

Well, I've owned the Bustin Maestro 38" (Bears, Bones Red, 70mm 83a) and i fucking love it. Rides mad smooth, light as fuck, and the tail helps so much for learning new shit..

Heel Slide Stand Up 180s came within a few hours of longboarding.. And I find dancing a lot easier than on a non cambered board (wierd). The new bustin fiberglass is out, and i wanna try that.. Thanks for the reccomendation bro haha, fucking love my maestro!

I want a versatile board, mainly just kind of cruising, some downhill, carving.

I also skate so I don't need this "freestyle longboarding" crap, if i want to do a kickflip, i'll use my skateboard. I want something that has a really nice fluid feel.

just got this yesterday the Landyachtz switch it was like 255 with shipping great board ive already ridden it alot they give you a choice of sliding wheels(zombie option) and the other wheels are traction wheels i got zombies since i plan on sliding with the board but for what you want id say get the traction wheels it will cruise

I loved my maestro, just sol it to someone on here. But pretty much every time someone rode mine they would go out and buy one. Original boards aren't that great from what I've heard from owners. Get the Conwave app for iPhone and droid. They will help
