my disk reader won't read anything. everything else on the xbox is working fine, just the disk reader won't read. no red ring, nothing. should i try replacing the reader or just invest in a new xbox?
The same thing happened with mine last year. I ended up sending it in, but it was still under warranty so it was free. Now it's happening again, but I found that if I just open and close the disc drive a bunch of times it eventually reads the disc. People online also suggested tapping on the top of the Xbox while it's trying to read the disc. I would just try opening and closing the tray a bunch of times and if that doesn't work either send it in or try a DIY replacement of the drive.
put the disk in and start up the game. then try blowing in the xbox where the vents are, or spray air duster in it (be careful not to spray to much in usually just a couple quick sprays). If that doesn't work flip over the xbox while its trying to play the disk it press on it while its upside down, sometimes the thing that reads the disk gets loose and you have to push it back into place. i worked for me, hope it works for you best of luck man!
my buddy had the same problem. The laser isn't touching the disk, so you put the disk in and push the disc reader in so that it forces the disk backwards a little bit so the laser can read it.
gonna have to sy this just cause but maybe you should invest in a PS3 they have less problems. if you can try to get the older style if you do wanna go that rout for seriouse. On a serious note yah check ebay you can get some good deals on part replacements. I've fixed a wii and 3 iPods from ebay. gotta love being able to replace parts yourself.
Happens all the time to me but I don't feel the need to buy a new xbox. So I just continually blow into the tray until it works and stop worrying about it until the next time it happens
Okay, some of you might think I'm joking, but I'm not.
After you put the disk in the tray and the tray is closing, when it's trying to read the disk, just bang the top of you xbox kinda hard. (Not enough to break it obviously, but a pretty good hit). This should move the laser or disk just enough for it to read the disk.
Also, if you get the disk to read once, download it to your hard drive right away. This will make sure that even if it can just read a tiny bit of the disk next time, you will still be able to play it.
Haha yeah the banging thing does work. I tried it. I just go with the open/close repeatedly method these days, but recently I have been having no problems with my Xbox, which is weird considering sometimes it won't read a disc for like a week.
