Skiing trip.

So ive skied in pennsylvania my whole life. and as you can imagine it can be very frustrating (short season bad weather) so my dad and I take a trip out west every year. two years ago we went to vail keystone breck and beaver creek. awesome trip. we were supposed to go to kirkwood this year but i had a concussion. any suggestions for the best places to ski in the west?

as far as deep snow is concerned, sierra at tahoe and kirkwood got POUNDED with snow this year. Those two usually end up with pretty good snow all year

best skiing in the world = whistler blackcomb, definitly has the most diverse terrain and always going to have fun there.

in the u.s. your first trip was pretty kick ass some of the best resorts right there.

squaw and heavenly are both nice.

also aspen is good with a nice variety of terrain, and four mountains so you wont get bored.

yeah thanks everyone. im thinking about alta snowbird whistler, the cannons, jackson hole, or kirkwood. haha cant decide.

Considering you can't choose the weather and conditions you will get, Whistler is probably the best option. It has pretty much everything the other places you named has, plus more.

awesome thanks. my dad was supposed to go to whistler a few years ago for his college reunion ski trip week. but it was gay pride week..so ironically their flight was cancelled and they went to jackson hole

definatley whistler. you could ski one lift all day and not ski the same run twice, and a mad nice park, actually make that two, and a boatload of sick big mountain terrain.

why are you stuck on Kwood? go to north shore, and you have squaw and alpine for slightly better terrain IMO, and actual parks. youre also not stuck out in the boonies like at kwood.


But really, the best one stop shop in the world in Whistler/Blackcomb. Nothing comes close to the combo of terrain, parks, and nightlife/culture.

Park city. You got some park, pow, and nice weather and you have a choice between 3 different resorts within 3 miles or so.

if you just wanna shred gnarly terrain, then you have a few options.

Revelstoke, Jhole(or targhee if you wanna hike), altabird, Tahoe(squaw,Alpine,Kwood), Kickinghorse, or telluride.


Those are really the only options to get radtastic at.

North Shore is the place to be in Tahoe. I'm surprised no one has said it, but Mammoth is an awesome place, too. Don't go back to CO like the first post said. Go somewhere new, like CA, Whistler, Jackson, UT, etc.

Jackson Hole. It doesn't matter when the hell you go this year, there is an 85% percent chance that you'll ski pow. Its that fucking good.

i was stuck on kirkwood cause the rediculous amounts of snow they get seems awesome. but the powder in tahoe is known to be really heavy. so maybe ill have to rule that out.

you also got to keep in mind the distance of the resorts from the airports. To get to Crested Butte from denver it takes upwards of 4 hours for me, and other resorts are similar in CO. Park City is only 1/2 or so away from SLC, alta and snowbird are even closer. If i were you i would stay at snowbird or alta, there is no need to rent a car cuz there are shuttles from the airport i beleive and the hotels there are right on the mountain, and tose 2 resorts have some of the best terrain and snow in the U.S.

If he went to Whistler they can pop the Canada Line from the airport straight downtown then walk across the street and catch the Snow Bus up to Whistler. Public transit makes life so easy.

Utah? Salt lake city have very nice mountain. Im going to revelstoke next year, im pretty stoked. Maybe going to jackson hole too if i gave some money.

fuck that, the driving adds to the adventure and allows you to see new parts of the country. but if youre worried about heavy pow, then stay off the entire west coast...

Whistler fo sho. I think the park is easily as fun as brecks park, the amount of terrain is rediculous, and they get tons of snow. Another added plus is that the town of whistler is fun and you could explore vancouver also, which is pretty cool. And even though it is a 2 hour drive, one of the best parts about whistler is the drive. It is pretty incredible.

i wouldnt mind a long drive from an airport. the problem is the weather. often when i land for a skiing trip its snowing like crazy. and its pretty expensive to get like a legit truck or suv for the conditions on the roads. so being close is better

I did Utah and Whistler this year andh have been all around Tahoe and Mammoth. I didnt have a bad time at any of them but Whistler is on another level.

oh and the main thing i want to ski out there are trees steep chutes and bowls. i wont spend much time in the park

If you are worried about weather, the bottom of whistler usually doesnt get too much snow because it is so low. A bunch of the time it rains at the bottom but by the time you get off the first lift it is snowing. Sometimes, however, I heard they do snow tire checks on the drive up when it is snowy. I have yet to see this though and I dont know anybody who has been stopped.

revelstoke, red, altabird, jhole, khorse, tahoe, whistler.

the best thing about whistler is that it has everything: dining, hotels, terrain, parks, nightlife...but you pay a lot.

best bang for youre buck is altabird.

thanks man. ill probably either end up at tahoe or altabird. unfortinutely whistler isnt an option anymore. but since i ski in pennsylvania..ill be amazed no matter where i go
