Bamboo Skis

Don't just get bamboo skis because they're made of bamboo. Boone skis are made of bamboo and they absolutely suck.

This, not all bamboo is created equal. Also, many brands claim bamboo cores, but in reality only have a very all percent of bamboo in them(ie liberty) however good bamboo based skis are the shit

im looking at skis by boomtown sports in Nelson British Columbia. they make bamboo skis that get great reviews, my brother worked for them for a bit and he says they are solid. They are real cheap so theres not much to lose,

That depends on where you mount them.

Like any other skis, I would find a way to demo a pair before buying.

Just because its a grass core instead of wood, doesnt mean quality and high performance every time, or lighter for that matter vs wood core.

Many companies use a hybrid bamboo core, where other wood is laminated with it... most of the time its not much added to performance, more for just the "Bamboo core!" technology claim.

As far as lightness is concerned, bamboo is cool in that its a very dense but supple material, so in general, you can have a thinner profile (less material, thus less weight) with less risk of snapping. Laminated material is all done differently though, and last season we found a surprising amount of weight and flex variance between and even in the same sample of bamboo we got from a few suppliers.

So the verdict, at least in my eyes: Bamboo is awesome stuff, but to get the most out of it, you gotta pair high grade materials with high grade materials. The added lifespan it gives to skis (in terms of poppiness and original flex characteristics) is wasted if the ski falls apart within a year. Just be careful not to get hooked into the whole "Bamboo is so clean, light and green!!!!" bullshit - we're manufacturing skis, like it or not theres a ton of stuff thats not exactly environmentally friendly when making a pair (and even tuning a set creates some gnarley waste products, so dont even start).

partially bamboo cores. Liberty cores are about 30% bamboo.

im not interested in LTEs or Liberty skis, Boomtown skis are 100% bamboo and cheap.

they're pieces of shit. i tried a pair when he first started making them and they're one of the worst pair of skis I've ever ridden, I don't know if he's changed the construction at all but I've seen a lot of delammed boomtown powderstixx. ON3P uses bamboo for all of their cores, and they kick ass though.

Get LTEs super light, stiff underfoot playful at the tips and tails, super durable

Liberty skis are nice, the LTE's are perfect for park and are super light, i had a pair this year but had to sell them due to $ issues, if you get any bamboo core skis get the LTE's

I have last years ON3P Blue Steeles and they are amazing. They are so soft and bendy. They are perfect for playing around but can hold up when cruising down steep blacks. Buttering has never been so simple on these bad boys.
