Never really seen a thread about kids on NS that surf and was curious as to how many actually do.
I live in Michigan so I dont get anything like the ocean waves but we still get a lot of real sick rides and a lot of storm waves that can be real fun.
There will be some haters that say you cant surf on the great lakes so for those select few trolls here you go.

you should get a kite, michigan is great for kite surfing. I kite up north in Glen Arbor and Traverse City

I do the surfing... in mushy central nj waves. Started the summer of my junior year of highschool. Got one summer of surfing in, planned on buying a 3/2 suit or something for spring/summer of my senior year of highschool but tore my acl over spring break and didn't do shit that summer. It sucked. Now I have't surfed in over a year because I've been away at school sans surfboard/a ride to the beach. I miss it so much.

And that board looks fun. I still wanna buy a nose rider longboard of some sort and learn to ride one of those. And a short, fat and thick fish twin fin, cause that just sounds fun. I've only got one board right now, 6'4 thruster, kinda a modern oldschool-ish shape, decent amount of volume at the front. It was made by a shaper in jersey to preform in mushy jersey surf I believe.

Long post. But the other thing I miss is photographing surfing, cause hardly anybody I know surfs. If you look through my flickr you'll see some from the few times I've shot surfing.

I wish I could get into it more. I live near lake superior, and I know they do get waves from time to time, but usually in the winter so its cold as balls.

Hell ya man..
and I dabbled with kiting last summer but never got into it huge.. this summer I am going to try to go hard with it

and ya man i would love a longboard i could ride nose on..thinking about like a 9'3 fireball made by mctavish

Nice board! I have a 5'8 Lost Phsycho Ward, and a Bic 7'9 funshape. In the fall, winter and spring I surf on long island, and in the summer im up in Nantucket. Have any of you guys seen Modern Collective or the new Jamie O'brian movie?

i used to have a skim board but then it broke. my cottage is at lake huron and the ground drops real quick (20ft out is over my head) so its impossible to surf where i am

everytime i go down south to florida i try and surf (usually bout twice a year) and dont have the money to buy my own board/ living in ontario also affects that.

but its super fun. i wish to move to some coast and eventually get my own

surfing the lakes is something i want to do before i die. I surf in NH so i feel your pain waiting for swell but Im curious on how often you guys get waves. And if the 7s is your summer board what is your winter board.

I own a 9'0 challenger heavy glassed, really awesome knee high to chest high point break waves. Nose rides really well for me.

I also borrow my friends 5'6" Lost RNF a lot. The thing rips. Yesterday i had one of the best sessions of ever on it, i've been daydreaming all day

Thats a sexy board. Are there tides in the great lakes? If there are, try and find an inlet somewhere and go during an ebbing tide. Near my house there is a really big salt water lake type thing with a small 20 ft wide outlet to the ocean, so when theres a fast ebb there are huge standing waves that you can ride for 20 min. or so. And they can get up to 10 or 15 ft tall if theres a strong outgoing tide with a stiff southerly breeze. I have a 6 ft EPS shortboard and a 10 ft longboard that are mad fun.

I wish I could surf. I'm totally at home on a wakeboard, longboard, snowboard, and anything else board related but standing up on a surfboard just can't be done for me haha

And to the other kid talking about boards we dont surf much because the water freezes.. so I dont have a distinct winter and summer board.

The great lakes actually gets some huge waves sometimes, this october on lake superior the waves were hitting 30 ft.

hell yeah dude, i surf around 5 times a summer when i can get out. my cousin lives in puerto rico and is a big time surfer. he was talking about how you can surf the great lakes, thats sick. congratulations on the shop, thats something ive always thought about doing later on

I lived in Dominical CR for 3.5 months and surfed there, I want to get out again this summer, hit the Cape or Nantucket.

I'm in Indonesia as i'm typing this, surfing almost every day. There are some sick waves here! Never surfed before i got here, but i'm getting pretty good at it now, claim!

I bought a surfboard about 2 weeks ago and have been slowly figuring it out. I haven't been going out as much as I would like because I have school and other stuff, but it's starting to come to me.

Thats an awesome place to live. I visited for three weeks back in December and spent three weeks traveling; mostly in the Nicoya Peninsula but the trip ended in Dominical. Stayed in a place near Playa Ventanas. I taught myself to surfboard in Mal Pais; i payed for not wearing a rash guard. claim that shit also first post.

I surf all around the Bottom Coast of Australia.

All the Victorian/ Mornington Peninsula spots, we get some epic waves. I have 3 boards, A long board and two short boards will post pictures later. Went down and watched today wanted to suf so bad but i've done my knee so can't surf for 6 months and it is killing me.

Surfing is the best.
I used to be a bodyboarder and converted about a year ago. Probably the best decision ever.
Ive been surfing around 4 to 5 times a week lately and hopefully it will stay that way until i go to Brek in December. The next few months are going to be Crisp :D

To anyone who doesn't surf, getting a Barrel is most probably one of the best experiences EVER!!!
Nothing beets that feeling.

surfing is so much fun. just was last year in portugal for a week and kind of got a few solid days in, like learning to stand up, doing "turns" and also tried a few times with a "legit" board that isnt 5 ft taller than me

I surf a lot in the summer, and in the winter when the waves get really good, I go skiing instead. Sorry surfing.

I surf in NH and I surf a lot. Id take chest+ with an offshore wind over skiing any day. Sorry but good waves dont come that often in NH
