1998 ford explorer, 100,000 miles

any car experts out there know if this would be a reliable car assuming its in good condition, no dents. Its listed for 1600 im gunna try to do 1200 on it. But is this year/car model a reliable car. I need a cheap reliable suv and i cannot really find anything around. I need it for the summer so i gotta make power moves on a car soon. Located in nyc area

I still see a lot of that era explorer driving around, so I'm guessing they are rather dependable. My 2003 tahoe has 206,000 miles and has had no significant problems and is still running strong

See if you could get a maintenance record for it. That would be key in seeing how reliable it is. Also trying to drop the price that much would be hard. Thats not alota miles for that year explorer.

i have a 95 ford explorer with 172,000 miles on it. It works but i have had a lot of problems with it. It doesn't get great mileage. I am grateful to have it, but i wouldn't recommend a ford.

my f150 has 223000 miles.
its just fine....with its second engine and soon to be third transmission but... thats cause the guy who had it last plowed snow and stuff

Don't mind this... The cars trucks and suv are all made very well now a days its not like when our parents were buying cars and 100,000 was an insane amount of miles. my best friend has an 01 with 250,000. RUNS like a champ and hasn't ever really had problems.

I wish you the best of luck, in whatever car you choose.

definitely get some maintanence records if you can, but hell i roll in a 93 4runner bought with 160k and she still runs like a champ. 100k on pretty much any car is not bad at all

Go and look at it in person, only way to tell. Look for heavy rust underneath. Test drive it and see if it shifts ok/ sounds good

my friends got a 99 exploder, definitely has had some issues with the steering but its been driven alot, close to 200 000 miles on it, with minor offroading. a good car for getting around beaches and dirt roads and in town but not so great for the snow

i had a 92 exploder with about 170k on it

it was a pretty solid car, and it was a beast cause i beat the shit out of it with no issues.. till i rolled it haha

dont drift it if you get it... bad idea

I have a 93 explore with 171,000 miles and the transmission is on it's last limb. The tires are worth more than the actual car

ive got a 97 exploder with 140,000 miles on it that i drive as my winter car and daily ski gear hauler in the summer and she runs like a raped ape. aside from routine maintenance, she's hasnt really caused me any problems. plus, that bitch is unstoppable in the winter. fun as hell to fishtail, too. however, as with any used vehicle, run a carfax and have it inspected by a reputable mechanic before purchasing.

not from fords best era as far as reliability but there are a lot of that chassis make on the road today so they must have been decent. check maintenance record and get a mechanic who you have a relationship with or a friends mechanic check her out.
