Best Backpack

I direct from school to the mountain sometimes, and I think it'd be damn useful to have a backpack with which to carry my skis AND BOOTS (the important part). I saw the Line slope pack, and that looks sort of like what I'm looking for. Is it a good design? Fits the boots, carries the skis securely? Are there better options?

Fitting textbooks and other stuff isn't an issue. I just won't bother with them on ski days.

Sorry I dont know anything about the bag, I heard something about some Dakine bag. But the main reason I'm posting is: Do you mean you walk to the mountain? And how far? Just curious.

^Yeah I just found that a minute ago, that looks pretty good... it'd be nice if I could find something that carried my skis too. Doesn't even have to have a backpack compartment, just something I can strap on my back to carry both.

And no Craige, but I bus a lot, and there's always a fair bit of walking involved, plus standing on the bus. Plus, I have to haul this junk around campus for a class or two first.

I use the Dakine Poacher pack. It's more of a backcountry pack, but it holds all my gear securely in one pack so I like it. Its a tad expensive, but I found mine Brand New on eBay for 60, it retails for around 100 I think. Most Dakine BC packs will do the job nicely, they all hold skis and pack enough room for boots and other gear. I use the diagonal ski carry on it, its works nicely. Tons of pockets and pouches for any gear you've got, poles, boots, goggles, skis...it will hold it.

i have a line pack(its an older one and its still kickin) and its a bit sketchy to hold the skis but it can be done, its relly good for holdin the boots though.

I've got a Dakine Chute pack and back in my ghetto days when I took transit to the mountain, (they're still not over) I could strap everything on it. I'd hang the boots off, carry my skis in my hands, and my shovel and jacket etc would be in the pack. It works pretty good.

i have the dakine heli pro and its awesome but i've never put my skis on it before. i believe its possible, don't know how comfortable it'd be. when i fly i've got my boots attached to it

i have the dakine heli pro. i can put all my gear on/in it (boots, skis, helmet, jacket) it has a chest strap and a waist strap for good weight distribution, and i love it. i have hiked all the way up to windells from the wy'east lodge at timberline (2 miles, with all my gear) with no problems. actually, you can carry 2 pairs of skis at once with it (ive only done that once though). plus, it has a place for a CamelBak bladder, a cd played pouch, and many other useful things. i would say go buy this pack!


ill be super rich and own mt.hood and let everybody from ns ski for free... except freezed

Definitely. If you don't want to go with a super-huge BC pack like the Poacher or Guide packs from Dakine, the Heli-Pro is a good alternative. Everything freezed said was true, but I grew out of my old one in Small. Dakine's packs are quality. Won't let you down.

Yeah JD i am a heli pro fan also. it supports your skis very well and the two straps in front make it a lot easier. i havent put my boots on it before but it is very possible as freezed said. it also doubles as my school backpack and trucks around all those damn books and binders. You can probably find them on sale in many places this time.

Anything Dakine and u cant go wrong, iv used the heli pro but i currently own the Pro II and it is awesome. pretty much if u get a dakine u wont regret it.

Dakine def. owns the pack department.....if your a minimalist like me the Vertex pack is primo. I just strap all my shit on till I get to the mountain.

the Heli pro is dope i have it and its confortable to carry the skis on... but i don't know about what that kid above is saying but there is no way i could fit my boots and helment in there maybe maybe your boots but thats it.

I can fit skis, boots, helmet, gloves, shoes, a binder and a lunch in the metro... perfect for going from school to hill. I'm happy.
