So I have honestly wanted a dirtbike since before I can remember... Like elementary school. It has always been literally an obsession. I moved to Breckenridge two years ago and it's been fucking torchure watching the dirtbikers all summer even though I get to ski/work at Woodward all summer. I live way up on Baldy MTN (if you're familiar with Breck) and could ride to at least THREE different mine trails from my house.

SO FINALLY, I'm making it happen and I'm putting a down payment on TWO YZ250's TODAYY!!!! (One for me and one for the boyfriend.)

No one has any idea how fucking stoked I am, so I just had to share.

he rode on the back of gandalf's eagle thing at the end, he could've done it any time and dropped the ring in. or gandalf could've done it himself, sure he couldn't touch the actual ring but he could've wrapped it in some cloth and put a rock in it so the whole thing fell faster. bam, no more fucking ring. but no, let's spend years walking and murdering each other to do exactly the same thing

To Ganondorf- Haven't gotten to ride 'em yet... it's been DUMPING here in Summit County... Like 18" in the last two days. Never thought I'd be pissed about snow. HA! It's also been pretty cold... and assuming you know two strokes and their notorious cold weather starts... ha.

HOPING tomorrow is the day! It's supposed to clear up and have a high around 37. Otherwise possibly Thursday with a high of like 47. We'll see.

And yeah... I've ridden lots of four strokes. I'm definitely a two-smoker fan for life. So fucking poppy in the lower power bands. Definitely gotta get better with my throttle control but I'm stoked to hit the trails... if it EVER stops snowing.

Huge props on the 2 stroke big bike decision... KEEP THEM ALIVE!! although, like everyone else said, 5'4" on one of the most snappy race bikes... be careful. oh, and I can't stress this enough, get a LEATT BRACE. LEATT BRACE LEATT BRACE LEATT BRACE. or something similar. mine has literally saved my spine and potentially my life between racing motocross and downhill mountain bikes. it's beyond worth the money.

Yeah, I know the power. I've never OWNED my own bike but I have a lot of hours on dirtbikes and have ridden powersports my entire life.

And I knowwww... Leatt Brace is next on my to-buy list. They're so effin expensive! If you have to put a price on safety... it should be affordable! Gah!

Yeeeeeeaaaa! congrats on getting a very legit bike- I also have a YZ250 and love it to death, she throws roost like no other. Curious though... If you're on a budget why buy brand new? Yamaha hasn't made any changes to the YZ's other than graphics since 06, and that year was just some suspension tweaking. Since most people view 2bangers as being inferrior to 4strokes, you could have probably picked up a low hr 05-06 250 for practically pennies. Anyways, no hate just wondering that's all. Also, If you have any questions regarding maintenance or parts for your bike I'd be happy to throw in advice- I've been wrenching and racing Yami 2 strokes for the past six years so I like to think I'm somewhat knowledgable:)

Friend races on a Yz450 at the moment, and says the power is ridiculous compared to the 250 that he raced on last season. I'm pretty sure the Yz450 do the quarter mile close to the time of an R1? They're stupidly quick.

I've never really ridden bikes, I've ridden a little 80cc one, and I had a 125cc GasGas trials bike for a bit.

i think a KTM 200 EXC would have been perfect for what you want. its basically the 125sx with a bigger engine, bigger gas tank, and a headlight, which is dope for if you're out a lot riding around dusk and it gets dark all of a sudden. I'm assuming you're not going to be racing motocross so theres no need to pick up a track specific bike, but the 200EXC is basically a 125sx modded out to be an enduro race bike and mine fucking rips. it destroys 125's and is lighter than a 250 so long rides are bearable. claim/ i have hit 90+mph with a car following to check speed /endclaim

It is really hard to compare dirt and street bikes. The 450s aren't that fast though. You're looking at about 0.23hp/lb on a 450f compared to 0.32hp/lb on an R1. A really good 450f with a motard setup would probably run about the 12s in the 1/4 mile. While you could probably squeak 9s out of an R1.

I didn't buy new though, haha. I should have clarified that in my original post. I bought them in spectacular condition from two loaded friends who just had to get rid of them (moving to hawaii for the summer and are buying new when they get back). I got both for $3000, it was a fucking STEAL! I'm a full-time college student so buying new would have been hard... I didn't want to buy a new bike and lay it down my first ride either HA!

And thanks, I'll definitely keep you in mind for questions! Stoked to see so many Yamaha riders on NS. I've been a fan my entire life and am beyond stoked to have two as my first bikes.

He said he was more afraid of his friends 250 than the 450 because the 450 is a four stroke. They're not nearly as snappy in the lower powerbands... basically a more forgiving ride. That's why they had to change the engine from a 250 to a 450 when moving from two to four stroke in the pro circuit.

I'm not going to get into the two / four stroke argument though. I'm personally a two-stroke fan but both have there positives and negatives. If I was a beginner rider and not just a first motorcycle owner I would have got a four stroke to learn on.

Yeah I know the 250 is snappier in the lower power band, but if you've got the gearing set up differently for your racing style which I'm pretty sure he has, It's pretty close to that of the 250. I wasn't trying to argue that one is better than the other, they both suit different peoples racing styles.

I've never ridden a proper bike so I'm in no position to comment, but just thought I'd give my two cents anyway haha :). I used to own a trials bike, Dad still owns one, which is a 280cc Gas Gas, I've ridden that about the fields around us, and that is pokey as fuck, but usually I just thrash the 250 ATV we have around.

Ya I do have my gearing set up a little different. Honestly I feel a little more stable on my 450 rather than my friends 250. Now I do have my suspension tuned to my weight so I think I sit a little bit lower which may be contributing to why I feel more stable. I can still handle my fiends bike just as well as I can my own, I just feel almost out of control on his. Personally I feel like the way you steer with both bikes feels a little different, on my 450 I feel like if you turn the front wheel the back will follow. On my friends yz250 when I ride I feel like i'm always swinging the back way out to turn, or I feel like I slide around more on his. Again, I can still slide around on mine it just takes more effort and is pointless to do so. On his it ALMOST feels necessary to slide the back around to feel more in control. It's just my personal preference to ride a 450. The 250 is I think around 30 pounds lighter too which might make a tiny difference. I think both bikes are pretty snappy and flat out on either of them is fucking insane. I love both bikes but in my expierience riding that's what I've taken out of riding both of them.

I don't know if this matters or not but I was actually just talking to my friend who has the yz250 and he was just saying he's been SOO much more scared on my 450 than he ever has been on his. So I don't even know what to think anymore haha.

Lol... you should never be scared of your bikes power! That just leads to slow progression, less fun, more injuries and total lack of style. People need to learn clutch and throttle control before they jump onto the bigger bikes. I Have never been intimidated by the bikes I have owned because I progressed from small 4strokes to bigger 4strokes, then small 2strokes to big 2strokes. There are way too many people these days out there that could be super quick on say... a crf150r, yet they're flying aroundcompletely out of control on 450's for some reason

Ya that's a terrible feeling... I layed mine down on pavement going 30km/h about 10 minutes after I got it. I made the transition from a 125, so the bottom end power was unexpected. I was riding from my house to the start of a trail which is probably a 2 minute ride. The last corner before the dirt I decided to get kinda aggressive on the throttle and totally sent the rear end out sideways, leaving my bike skittering across the road with sparks coming from it. I got over it pretty fast though, after all it's a dirt bike- after a couple of years on it that's considered one of my smaller get-offs;) Which reminds me... If you havn't considered it already- buy a pipe guard! The 250's pipes are obviously very vulnerable, and dents can mess with your power and jetting. E-line/moose makes really great looking and indestructable carbon fiber guards for our bikes. Slightly pricey but it's the best aftermarket part for the money that I've put on any of my bikes

Ya I know what you're saying. I didn't literally mean SCARED I guess I just meant more intimidated. I'm not scared of my bike at all. I figured it out and I've been riding dirtbikes for 6 years (even though earlier I said 4 or 5 I wasn't sure) and I started out on a crf230 (slow trailbike)and now I'm on my 450. I'm a 6'3" 220 pound guy so its not like I'm too small for my bike or anything.

FINALLY got out for my first ride today... well, 5+ hours of riding. Blue bird day up in the mountains...

SOOO fucking stoked I got the 250, thing hauls ass so hard... so in love!

Only got a quick short 10 second vid and one pic (bf only had his iPhone)... but will post some vids once I get someone's GoPro to borrow.

lil brother is into it now... oldest brother was into quads though until two trips of the hospital became a bit too expensive... still have the track though and he was a mechanic for a season helping out his bud at nationals. here's some old pics of him riding at our track.

well im like 5'4'' and in 8th grade and have a honda xr 100cc 4 stroke and really like it.

I might buy a 2 stroke from my friend, might test ride it.
