So I have honestly wanted a dirtbike since before I can remember... Like elementary school. It has always been literally an obsession. I moved to Breckenridge two years ago and it's been fucking torchure watching the dirtbikers all summer even though I get to ski/work at Woodward all summer. I live way up on Baldy MTN (if you're familiar with Breck) and could ride to at least THREE different mine trails from my house.

SO FINALLY, I'm making it happen and I'm putting a down payment on TWO YZ250's TODAYY!!!! (One for me and one for the boyfriend.)

No one has any idea how fucking stoked I am, so I just had to share.

noicee thats a tight ass bike. im a little interested in getting started biking but im more into turning my 4runner into a wheeler right now, and in the downtime off that im working on my sled. but thumbs up for making it happen!

this. My friend has an 02 YZ125 and that thing fucking rips... a 250 2-stroke.... you'll shoot your eye out, unless you only keep it in first gear.. haha.

Out of curiosity, and again this whole post is assuming you've never ridden before, did you go to a dealership to pick up the bikes? Have you had the chance to climb up on it and see how big it is/ did the guy selling them to you ACTUALLY let you get them?! haha

But this bike is also a 2 stroke...a 250 4 stroke wouldn't be bad to learn on..But a 250 2 stroke....You're bound to hurt yourself.

That's awesome. I'm a little surprised that you got a 250 2-stroke for your first bike. That thing can get you into trouble real quick. A slip of the wrist while falling in that powerband will have you on the ground before you know what happened. That thing is going to be a wild bore trying to tame it on the trails too. But I'm sure you will still have tons of fun. I didn't start riding dirt bikes until I was 20, and it was every bit as great as I dreamed since I was little.

P.S. Especially since you got a beast of a bike, wear ALL the gear, ALL the time!!!!!! Who cares what you look like. Knee guards are a must. At least get a roost guard, but I would highly recommend a full safety jacket/pressure suit. The shoulder, arm, chest, and back protection help so much. You will be glad you did after your first good fall.

This.. My friends yz125 I was talking about was the first dirtbike I rode and to be honest the power behind that thing was intimidating to say the least. I just recently picked up a little yz80 because were building a little track in his backyard to just fuck around on. We ripped it on the road with a car trailing and I passed the car going 70 k/ph (only a 40k/ph road, keeping it semi legit haha, only in the 3rd gear. thats a yz80.. Im in no way trying to hate because dirtbikes are amazingly fun and I encourage people to rip them, but you NEED to keep your safety in mind. That bike will rip the handlebars out of your hands, especially for your first bike.

Obviously your still going to go ahead with the bikes and thats awesome because they truly are a whack of fun, but you will soon see why people in this thread are saying its too big a bike to start on. Unless your like a 6' power butch gurl who beats up guys at the bar. Not only is it super powerful, but its just a BIG bike in general, you will need a stepping stool to get on it!

i started on a 125 when i was like 12 and then a 200 when i was like 14. bike was way too big, ended up dislocating a few fingers and a shoulder but totally worth it. If you're going as big as a 250 you better have some sand pits or open fields. If you're going on 1 bike trails then it's fucking tarded to get a big bike

Yeah I have experience riding, not a lot on dirtbikes but a shit ton on other power sports. I've been shopping for them for a long time... The KX100, KTM 100SX, etc are the bikes that fit me the best because I'm small (5'4") but I really think I'd get bored quick with the power.

I'm a girly girl normally but I know how to man handle the shit out of things like my big pow skis, dirtbikes etc. =D

And yeah, I'm huge on protection... kind of a safety freak. Ha! I raced BMX for a lot of years and broke my pelvis, back, etc. so I'm pretty done doing any kind of super gnarly riding. Just going to be cruising the trails!

When you live as high as I do (bike will rarely go lower than 9,600ft) the powerband suffers a lot, so it's best to error on the side of too much power.

haha i had a 250cc dirt bike engine in a small go kart and i could spin the tires in 4th gear and the fastest i went was 75, which is mad sketchy when your 2 inches off the ground in a go kart meant to go 20. I thought this was going to be one of helmetcamhero's threads.

Once you get used to the bike, definitely try get the jetting dialed. I am decently high at 4500ft in SLC. My bike still performs well, and I just rode it stock for the first summer. But now this spring/summer I am looking to really focus in and get the jetting dialed to really get it to run well.

Also, even if you aren't really into it, once you get more comfortable you should try to get out to a motocross track! I literally learned to ride on a MX track because that is all I wanted to do, but damn it is so much fun. I don't really care to race at all, but just flowing through the course is too fun for words.

Thats awesome! dirt bikes are so fun! my recommendation is to also invest in a good pair of boots, they will help keep your ankles alive. I have some Alpinestars boots, so I can recommend them, but if your looking for something less expensive ask at the shops.

also, a good helmet is a necessity, but I figure that is common sense :P

double also, I am not the creepiest person all the time :P

dirtbiking = 3 seasons

atv = 4 seasons

(northeast u.s. climate)

snowmobiling is far from the best on the east coast

2011. Mine aren't new though... I bought used. But IMO they're all awesome from 2000 and up. Definitely a fan of the new frames though.

I want to ride so bad but it's been DUMPING the last week... Never thought I'd be pissed off about it snowing. HA!

Thanks! We just got a new motocross track here in Summit so I'm stoked to get on it. It's more on the mellow side as far as tracks go which is cool.

Luckily I bought them from two good friends who actually already have them jetted right for altitude. They are definitely not jetted for the cold though... I knew 2 strokes were notorious cold weather starters but SHIT! It's gonna be in the 30's mostly all week and I don't think it's going to happen. High of 47 on Thursday so I'm praying that'll be the day!

Gonna have to learn how to really work the clutch on that thing. When i rode two strokes i basically used the clutch as my throttle cause you wanna stay in  the power band at all times. Two strokes are really fine to ride though

Some light scuffs as this used to be some muggles closet Broom, but ever since i moved from Godrics Hollow to Middle Earth, apparating got fucking boring. Haha I know. I've had power sport vehicles my whole life... just not a dirtbike. Parents were never fond of motorcycles. They're really into the watercrafts... jetskis, boats, etc. I'm sure this will be umpteen times cheaper than our seaplane. =p

couldn't frodo have just flown over mt doom on one of gandalf's cool flying machines and dropped the ring in the lava? it would've made the book 1 page long and saved A LOT of lives

back to topic, i have a honda xr 250r and it's sweet, i'm stoked to get back on it this spring once mud season is a little more under control and i can ride it in the woods without getting stuck every 10 feet

Yeah same. I paid them all at once... I bought used though so I put a down payment because my two friends are going to Hawaii for the summer and they wanted to know I was fo real.

Cuz they're loaded and just needed to get rid of them I got a fucking STEAL... $3000 for both! They're in stellar condition too... can't believe what a deal. Otherwise I probably would have got a 125... but fuck it.

I've been riding for probably four or five years now. I ride a Crf450r and for some reason I'm more afraid of my friends Yz250 then I am my 450. It may be just because I'm not used to how 2 strokes feel but... Regardless you'll have fun on this bike. Be safe!
