please no tobasco ads

I don't mind any of the other ads, except for pre-roll in the video section. It definitely puts people off from giving the video section good traffic, (I know I don't browse nearly as much as I used to because of them). It really is bad when you are going to watch a 10 second video of someone's first rodeo 5, but it is sandwiched by 2 30 second ads about the Salomon Suspects. I would really like to see them stop. Maybe as a middle ground, it would be fair to only have pre-roll on videos that have reached 5000 views, or some factor like that.

hmm. i like that idea about having the ads on videos that reach a certain number of views cause it really does satisfy both sides of the equation. but even then, the ads shouldnt be longer than 10-15 seconds

as for ads on the rest of the site, there has been a time where i was looking for an add i used to see daily on ns, that had something to do with ski banff deals, but i couldnt find it. so maybe for all ski trip related ads you could have a small community section called "ski deals" or something like that for people who might be thinking about planning ski trips depending on the available prices? it could also have different sections for different deals like deals on skis, outerwear, etc

this seems like a good place to give the mods props for continuously deleting all of those spammed-from-china buy-cheap-gucciedhardyarmani posts... i'm sure it's an obnoxiously ongoing task.

How would we make things less intimidating for you? What would you like to see? I think we make it pretty easy for small companies to work with us, and I personally have gotten a few people started just through PM conversations.

Not sure if you or others are aware of our Self Serve Advertising program where you can literally just go and buy banner ads all by yourself for as low as $100, without even having to deal with a sales guy. Though Aaron is awesome to deal with so don't be scared if you want to go bigger.

I would like to add my number to the list of people who view roll out and expanding adds negatively.

i like the banners and skins and team updates but the pre video ads make me mad, i mean i can only watch nick martini describe a boot as cushy so many times and that time has long passed

Now that I look closer, it appears as if there is some kind of filter like this in place already. All the Top Rated videos have pre-roll, and most Newest don't. Although some Newest videos with 2 ratings and a handful of views will sometimes have pre-roll too. I don't get it.

It has been said in various degrees, but I can't stand flashing ads - I hate to do it, but I had to use my adblocker on NS because I get after images really really easily (hyper-sensitive to bright lights of any sort - it's a thing) and it really messes me up haha. Some icons from the team updates mess me up too, but what can ya do.

I don't mind the background ads, they are actually nice because I can choose to either look at them or not, and they are usually aesthetically pleasing.

Ads that expand are extremely annoying - if you want to keep this an option for advertisers, they should only expand when you click on an expand button (if this is already in place, sorry, I must have spastic fingers haha).

Video ads aren't bad as long as there is no sound and they stay within their confines (i.e. don't expand unless I want it to).

Pre-roll ads are annoying, but if they were shorter it wouldn't be terrible. 45s is really long. If you don't have my attention in the first 5 seconds, then the next 40 are wasted; shorter, more salient ads (this does NOT mean FLASHING) are going to get my attention. Plus, if I see that an add is 45s I will click off to another tab for said amount of time and then come back when the video is ready. If it's a short ad, I'll stay for the whole thing.

The regular sized banner ads are generally unobtrusive.

I don't mean to rip on advertising so I hope that's not how is came across. I am actually stoked that so many people want to advertise on NS because it just shows how far we have come in the past 10 years - from needing donations by members to having large companies fighting for "prime time" NS. Not to mention that the improvements to NS as a result of this is so worth it in the long run, no matter how much I may yearn for 'the good old days'. When I do that just ignore me. I'm being sentimental.

MAKE THEM FUNNY. PEOPLE LIKE FUNNY

If ads are going to come in video section, keep them below 15 seconds. Also please do not allow them to have pop-ups and other annoying things.

Skins and banners are perfect, interesting to see, and if you want you can click them.

Have them offer up forum contests may also be a fun twist.

like someone said before, the line adds were perfect. Short, simple, and really dope.

i really hate the long ads before vids... skullcandy, northface, some new ski boots.   it will only make me want the product less

LINE's and Windell's ads are pretty capturing.

Indeed, those assholes that consistently hijack the comments of a sick videos have to go somehow.

DEF please use a little but of a filter with some of these advertisements........"1 Rule of a flat stomach" like....DUB.TEE.EFF
