First ever edit

So this is just the bad shots i got of my friends basic tricks, edited together on basic soft ware and i threw it all together just for practice, when i do the real spring edit i will be using high end software my friend has and a different camera.
Yesterday was my first day ever filming, i just broke my collarbone a few weeks back, and because i cannot really ski i decided to film.
Critique is always appreciated

Things to work on:

-less camera shake
-music :)
- no freeze frames.

Ya dude stay away from the freeze frames like everyone said, get a better camera and software

Also im sure you just did what a lot of kids who when filming and skiings...swap filming runs or what not..but if possible get a tripod or something to reduce the shaking...

Did you film that on a flip? seems like it had to be a small camera with that amount of shake, or the filmer was freezing and couldnt stop shaking haha

But everyone has to start somewhere right? and def not bad to ask for feedback, if you can take the criticism then thats good!

Best advice is to watch a lot of the top rated videos by the best skiers and filmers, helps give you an idea of what everyone likes, but def create your own style of filming an editing...

thank you, yea flip cam, like i said just broke my collarbone like 2 months ago, i cannot personally ski, like really ski, for another 5weeks. i was not planning on getting into filming and editing, but again, i do appreciate feedback and constructive criticism. +k

only thing I can say about this is that true filmers and editors will keep their songs to themselves in my experience. Finding good songs that flow and work best with the footage you have are 50% of the editing part. It takes a LONG TIME to find one that works. I have a itunes folder dedicated to only songs that might work for edits and def dont let anyone know what those are besides my riders.

work on stabilization. i suggest an X-grip or tripod. me and my filmer had the same problem, and when we borrowed our friends Xg-rip, there was a very noticeable difference. and they only usually run in the 35-40$ range! tripods work too, but they are more of a pain in the ass and you cant really do follow cams with them, which i personally think look better than a stationary shot.

and yes, another song would be good. use one that really described the skiers style and how he rides. If he's a thug, go gansta... If he's a punk, do that... If he's a hippy, play some rasta... you know where im going with this.

Miles, in regards to songs you NEVER want to use a song that has been used before in an edit or even worse, in a movie. Only advice is that practice makes perfect. Watch edits on m&a and read people's critiques on them. You'll figure out what's good in an edit and what simply doesn't belong. Just keep at it.
