Whistler/Blackcomb in April....I've got some Questions

Hey NS, im going to whistler in about a week (18-22 of April) with my family, during my spring break to do some skiing and i have a few questions for you.

Also, i will only be skiing the 19-21

Any help will be greatly appreciated

1. What are the snow conditions going to be like out there?  Slushy? Pow? in between? 

2. Hows the park?  What Mountain has the best parks/features to ride?  I like jumps but nothing to huge, and i love me some nice rails.

3. I know that Horstman Glacier is at the top of Blackomb Mt. were camp of champs is and i was wondering if you are able to ski up there? Is there a park set up?    

4. I am interested in renting or demoing some skis, preferibly pow skis (if there is pow).  Do they Have pow skis for rent?

5. Since I will be skiing with my family for a good part of the trip, what are the best runs, Groomers, trees, long runs?       

6. Where are the shortest lift lines, what lines should we stay clear of?

7. If you have any other recommondations please tell me.

yeah whistler ftw! you guys really have to go there and see for yourself. blackcomb mountain has the best skiing in my opinion. in the late season, less people come

2. Both parks are great, Blackcomb has the big jumps.

3.Yes you can ski there, no there won't be a park.

4. You can rent S7s, Czars, Coombacks, Access's, Shoguns from WB. Other shops in town rent K2 and volkl and other brands..

5. If I were riding with my family I would take them to the blackcomb glacier and ski a lot around crystal chair for decent glade skiing. You really can't go wrong with either mountain, but whistler takes longer to know your way around then blackcomb, and its easier to get stuck on a busy groomer.

6.Emeral(green) chair has the longest lines. It services the whistler park and a huge portion of the intermediate terrain on whistler. Avoid it unless you're skiing park.

On blackcomb excellerator can get really busy, everyone who goes up blackcomb from the village has to use that chair plus everyone who skis out from the glacier and everything below jersey cream.

7. Don't stay on one part of the mountain for too long, after a couple laps in the same area go explore somewhere else. Whistler is HUGE, you should try to get the most out of it.

you there are a couple of demo tents where you can demo pow skis. I know theres one near the roundhouse on the whistler side. just take the whis gondola up. You can also rent pow skis too. tmc freeriders got some good ones. the parks are pretty awesome. theres only one park on blckcomb where you need to buy a parkpass i think. the rest are free. i like the habitat one on telus the best

I am also aware that the WSI AFP World Championship is going to be held during the time that i am there, will they be closing down any of the parks for these events?

This for sure.

I personally love the flow of the Whistler park. Blackcomb has bigger features in the "Highest Level" or black park, but there's something about the Whistler park that's so awesome. Loads of fun features on both mountains.

Definitely go up the Peak Chair. You can't say you've ridden Whistler until you see someone huck off of Air Jordan (lookers right from the bottom of the lift, you won't miss it).

Lines are probably gonna suck towards the middle/end of the day. Get ready for it. Eat lunch at an atypical hour (11-11:30, 12:30-1).

I don't know how good your family is, but make sure to hit a couple fun spots:

Spanky's ladder (2 minute hike or sidestep off of Glacier Express on Blackcomb).
Peak to Creek (easier run that's awesome on a sunny day, top of peak chair to Creekside).
Couloir Extreme (off 7th Heaven or the T-bar on Blackcomb).

Basically, lotsa cool stuff at Whistler. Make sure to have fun at night as well!!

1. slush

2. both parks are great, can't go wrong with either one!

3. theres no park set up on the glacier in the winter, but glacier chair is amazing on a pow day!

4. what other people said, pretty sure you can demo some

5. ill be up there with family as well but im going to ditch them and watch the events and stuff. 7th heaven is great, if its sunny its a must to ski around there, so amazing. peak chair is also awesome, pretty much all of whistler and blackcomb's alpine is a must. for long runs i would say peak to creek.

6. emerald has really long lines because of all the green runs, plus its the way to access whistler park. really i would just stay away from the lower lifts

1. Most likely pretty soft, sunny and warm. Theres still tons of snow left
2.Personally i think blackcomb park is wayyy better then whis. The park is super fun and theres a mini and full halfpipe.
3.No park set up in hortsman at this time of year, only in the summer.
4.Tons of different places to rent & demo skis... you will be up during part of telus ski and snowboard fest so that opens even more demo tents.
5. My favorite groomer run is rock n roll and honeycomb on blackcomb. If you go to the top of glacier chair and ride all the way down to solar or excelerator on those runs its super fun. Like said above crystal is a good chair to be on although its only a triple and runs slowly.
6. Excelerator usally has pretty long lines at the start of the day. 7th heaven can have really long ones too when its nice.
7.I like blackcomb a lot better then whistler. Sometimes in the winter when theres lots of pow whis can be fun, but i usally stick to blackcomb. Make sure you check out TMC freeriders store in the village by the movie theater, its the sickest store everrr.

1. There is a mile of vertical. What conditions will be like over a week from now is anybody's guess. From my experience, bank on gray and possibly rainy in the village, and snowy and delightful up high.

2. Park is money. Whistler park is probably better bet for what you're talking about, but check out blackcomb's too, and get the pass if you so desire.

3. They have camps on the glacier because it is a glacier. In the winter, and spring, there is no need for a park up there. Use Horstman to access terrain.

4. It is a world-class resort. There are many shops you can rent from. Check snow reports to make sure it is worth your while. My recollection is that it isn't that cheap.

5. Peak chair and harmony are good for family stuff. Lots of mellow runs but in a high alpine setting. Plus great terrain if you so desire.

6. Lift lines probably won't be a big deal.

7. Telus WSSF will be going on during that time. Lots of shit going on. Slopestlye on the 21st if you want to see some of the best.

As others have mentioned: explore. It is huge place.
