alright so forgive me M&A i am a total newb at final cut pro as i installed it last night, and im having trouble inserting a title.

i want to make the title so that it plays on a clip that fades in, so the text is say red on black and then the clip fades in and it's now red text with the video as the background. but, when i try to insert the title to the track, the title stays with a black background and then the title disappears and the video clip starts playing (no fading, the title has a black background that is smothering the video). how do i give the title a transparent background?

yea, i googled. couldn't find shit or shit that i could understand.

make the text, then drag it on to the timeline in the track above your video
if you want a black background at first, just hang it over(to the left) of the start of the clip, and apply transitions to the text

that help?

i did make the text and drag it to the timeline, over a clip that fades in slowly. the problem is that i want there to JUST be text, no solid black background to it. what happens is instead of the clip fading in with text, the title completely masks the clip and so it is either a black screen with text on it or the video clip without text.

Not sure whats going on, ive never had that happen. Maybe check in the motion tabs and such for a background selection or not, i feel like you can make it so its always on a background and you can turn it off, i think.

well i got it to work... i don't know what i was doing wrong because i basically just started up FCP and did the same things i did last night and it worked this time. whatever, eheath you were already at 10 and 10/10 to sklar
