Cracked iphone4 screen

Hey guys, I just cracked my iphone screen pretty bad and was wondering if any of you have gotten them replaced not through your provider? I was searching online and found a few places that would do it for about $130....but that seems a little steep. Any sites? Recommendations? Thanks!

My suggestion is suck it up until June then upgrade to the iPhone 5, I divined with cracks on my iPod touch before I got my iPhone, it wasn't too bad

Mine has been terribly cracked for over a year. It sucks, but I dont notice it too much anymore. My contract expires soon so Im probs gonna get the new one.

iphone 4 screen replacement is expensive because they combined two components from the previous generation into one, upping the part's cost considerably. the part runs around 120-140, and then labor costs drive it up from there depending on where you go. If you go to the apple store with the intention of paying the 200 they charge to replace it, you have a 50/50ish chance of them just replacing it free depending on what kind of day the tech is having.

no, the best bet it to fix it yourself. they aren't that hard to fix. i've swapped out probably 15 iphone/touch screens over the course of the past few years. the parts cost usually less than $20 on amazon...apple charges $200 from what i've been told to fix a broken screen. if you send it to me, I'll fix it for $25+ parts. otherwise just youtube it.

this, just look on ebay for the fix it yourself packs. few things to look for in the packs are:

- includes all the parts/tools neccesary
- perhaps a youtube tutorial vid on how to do it.
- good seller rating.

from what i saw online it looks like the parts run $100+? that seems so ridiculous. but i guess that was strategic on apples part since they fused the screen and LCD together....but if someone on here has experience fixing a 4 i would be eternally grateful, and love to pay less than $200 since it's still a usable phone...:/

will you post a picture of the damage? is it just the glass that's broken, or is the lcd broken, too? i just looked on amazon and you can get replacement glass for under $20. if you need the lcd, too, then you're looking at about another $40. like i said, i can fix it for you if you send it to me. if you're interested, pm me and I'll give you the names of some folks that can vouch for me, ie confirm that i'm not going to steal your shit.

You'll probably be paying more for someone to spend 5 minutes replacing the item than you will for the item itself. If you're willing to try repair it yourself, you might save a lot of money.

Or ask friends/family if they know anyone good local who repairs them... I know there was a guy doing iPhone repairs not too far from me for as low as $10 (yeah, questionable figure I know)

Or be impatient, send it to the first place you can think of, wait too long to have it repaired and get charged way too much.

dude, it takes a lot longer than 5 minutes to swap out an iphone screen. they are actually one of the biggest pains in the ass to take apart. i've taken apart damn near every phone out there and iphones are by far one of the most difficult.

I just cracked the glass screen in the lower left-hand corner. I don't think i cracked the lcd, but i'm not an electronic wiz....The whole front display still works fine though?? I read online the glass screen and LCD on the iphone4 are fused as one piece though? I'd post a pic of it, but I don't know how to embed....which is really pathetic for how long i've been a member on NS.

you'd know it if the lcd was broken because ink would bleed all over the screen and you wouldn't be able to see anything. it sounds like you've only broken the glass....which is nice because the LCD is the more expensive part to have to replace.

the LCD and glass are NOT fused as one piece. they fused the glass and the digitizer (what makes your touch screen able to function via touch) as one piece, but not the LCD and glass. it's actually kind of nice that they did this because the digitizer was kind of a pain in the ass to swap from broken glass to the new one. this will dramatically reduce the potential of breaking the digitizer when replacing the glass.

here is a link to the replacement glass and digitizer for an iphone 4g on amazon & it's under $20. without having seen the phone, and based solely on what you've described in this thread, I'm 99.9% sure that this is the only thing that you need to buy. once you have this piece, it's just a matter of popping your old glass/digitizer out of your phone and replacing it with this new one. shouldn't take longer than an hour to do.....tops.

Send an email saying how you have spent lots of money on apple products in the past and that you have been a loyal customer. Then go onto say that you are disappointed that the screen has cracked and feel that it should't have happened. Finish off by saying that your help would be appreciated in resolving the problem and thanks in advance. you never know, you may get a new screen. It worked when my mouse broke so I hope it works for you!!!!!!

no way that is going to work. they hear this shit all of the time. their response is going to be something along the lines of, "glass doesn't just break on it's own. glass breaks because you applied too much pressure to it in a manner that it was not designed to handle. this is not a manufacturer's defect, but rather damage caused by the consumer. as such, it will not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty."

I almost guarantee they are going to tell you that you are shit out of luck. (probably worded a little nicer than that though.) Your options will be to buy a new phone, pay $200 to have them fix it, or fix it yourself/privately.

yeah i figure apple doesn't care one bit about another one of the millions of people who have cracked their iphone, even if I am a loyal customer. What's the link for the glass/digitalizer on amazon? My older brother works as an electrical engineer and figures he could probably swap it out when I'm back in town for easter.....or so he thinks.
