Need your guy's experience/opinion (car)

Whats up newschoolers, I was lucky enough today to get my first car or at least "do the deal" with the salesman and its on hold for us. We've been looking for a long time for the right car that would be good in the snow and able to be driven for years to come. So more to the point, my parents and I found it in the back of the dealership that we went to too achually see another car. So stoked we found this.


Its a 2008 Jeep Liberty with about 42,000 miles on it, and we got a killer deal on it thanks to my mom lol. What I wanted to ask is if anyone had any experience with this car or if there is anything you can tell me about it that I should know.



I also wanted to put a 3 or 4 inch lift on it after i drive it awhile. It'll look like this, What do you guys think.

libertys arent really made to be lifted. You are gonna get a lot of body roll with 3"-4" life. Id stick to a 2" coil/coil spacer loft with new shocks and 31" tires. It will drive nice, ride nice, wont loose a ton of power or MPGs, and it will still look badass.

Then again, lifting a liberty....to each their own.

that thing sure doesnt have much more clearance with a 4 inch lift than my runner does stock..but like has been said, i wouldnt lift it either. buy something old and rugged if you want to play like that

I wasn't really looking for any negative comments but you can say what you want, im stoked on this car and im sure you would be to. Also im sure u've realized how many spoilded kids are on this site, so dont let it bother you.

Ya i see what your saying, we went to the dealership to achually look at a 2001 jeep wrangler with tons of after market goodies hah but it had to many miles. And I also think lifting it is out of the question now hah insurance would be killer.

if you want something for the mountains to play in buy something before 95 and lift it put some fat tires on and dont even insure it. thatd put you at one mountain rig and one city rig, and the two dont need to mix

I would be stoked.  I'll admit I'm super jealous. I'd kill to have a car like that considering I've worked the past three years to spend every dime I have to buy two cars, because one has had anything and everything go wrong with it.  In all seriousness though, I would not lift it.  Keep it stock height, I've seen way too many people run into so many problems after lifting or slamming cars.

Also, that picture is a joke, I wear that tee on days when I feel like acting like a huge douche.  I guess you could say today has been one of those days.  Good luck with the car, man.

I wouldn't lift it at all imo. It isnt much of an offroad vehicle but you could probably get a cheap little leveling kit to make it look nicer. My friend has one and i believe it is made kinda cheaply and you feel every bump. You can get much nicer jeeps for a good deal also

I would have gone for a little older one, perhaps a cherokke for a lower price. Then if you want to offroad get a mid 80s 4runner or Toyota pickup to beat on and wheel, they are cheap, reliable, and easy to work one and are pretty capable for what they are

Why wouldn't you spend your money on one nicer car instead of 2 that break down often? Please explain.

Don't kid me wrong i had to do a lot to get this car. First off i was not one of those kids that got a car on my 16 birthday i have to wait a year or so and share the families cars. Also i had to get a job to help pay for insurance, they might still sound spoiled to some of you and i probally am, I just don't really care. Some parents feel its nessisary to buy their kids a car others don't I cant really complain that mine do and Im very fortunate. And Lift is out now i think im keeping it the way it is, mabey just upgrading the sound system.

That jeep isn't meant to be lifted, or even really wheeled at all. If you wanna put bigger shoes onto your rig, I'd do it on an older beater rig is more designed for it. Get yourself a tj or something if you're a jeep guy. If not, I'd look into getting an old yota or something. I myself am a land rover guy, but that's just preference. I wouldn't recommend landy's though unless you're mechanically inclined, as they're not that reliable compared to a sturdy tried and true yota or jeep. Also, if you do end up lifting that jeep, don't bother with bigger springs, just slip a couple pucks in there and maybe put an extension bracket on your shocks rather than buying larger ones. You'd be pressed to put that heep in a situation that really requires the extra articulation, especially if that pic you posted is a 4" lift, there's really not thaat much clearance to begin with. You also have to know that tires really are the only thing that dictate clearance. Your chassis can be as high as you want, but your diffs are only gonna clear things as high as half your tire diameter (or less). Keep that in mind if you plan on doing any serious wheeling. Also look into gearing ratio's when up sizing your tires. I doubt you'll have any problems if you stick to something smaller than 32's, but you might wanna look into it anyway so that you don't stress your vehicle. Also look into angles when you lift it, don't wanna be breaking any u-joints or cv's when you put this lift in.

Quality post man, and ya about the land rover aha. That was the original car i wanted like a 2003 land rover but a soon as i mentioned that to my dad who has 2 of them imediatly said no hah. I guess there is to much that goes wrong with them. Has anything gone wrong with yours thats pretty serious?

And ya man if i have any questions ill pm you.

Can anyone suggest a cheap bust still pretty good sound system I could add?, and does anyone achually have this jeep on here that has anything to say about it.

don't bother lifting it. spend the money on a sick ass stereo and a good roof box. It will get you to pretty much any ski hill as long as you get good tires. It will also do your basic dirt roads just fine. That vehicle is not meant to be a serious off road vehicle, and if you do it you risk ruining such a nice car.

There is a reason why most jacked up trucks are ugly and impractical for daily driving.

dont lift it at all...dont fuck with it chances are 99.999% of the time you wont be doing any sort of off road. In snow it will handle fine because its a jeep. Please dont lift it it looks straight fucken retarted and you ruin the cars handling and performace as well. Also, dont waste your money doing that, dont do anyhting to the car. Its a fine car. The more shit you do to the car the shorter it will last you in the long run. Why on earth would you want to lift that car...so you look cool driving down the highway?

idk one of my friends said it would have a nicer right but ive done my reserch now and i got lots of "dont lift that" on here so im not going to. Just gonna upgrade the sound system

in the long run you will understand ... sound system solid upgrade for those who feel the need for ear destroying volume. But lift kids look straight gay for the most part and trust me you dotn want to be tht tool in your school parking lot with that stupid ass lifted truck that no one really likes

ha yea I just had some exposure to landy's a while back and immediately fell in love. I'm able to do most repairs myself, so it helps. couple things have gone awry with mine. the air suspension failed two different times on me, so I converted it to coils, which was a pretty big job but its more reliable now, although not as fun! I've had some electrical issues as well, which is harder to fix and much more finicky. but its a love affair for me, and I'm willing to work through these things - just adds character (to the person and the car haha). as for sound systems, get something that won't distort. I won't drop brands, as that's a personal choice that's also affected by your budget, but make sure your amp is rated to push more than your speakers. never turn the volume past half, as amps begin to distort signal once they're being asked to push out so much, and you risk blowing a tweeter. if you install the system with the right components, half volume should be plenty loud. that's just my advice though. again, pm me if you want.

Get a nice deck that has 2 or 3 sets of preouts and ipod control, I love Alpine so Ill plug them, and nice amp and 2 10"s and you will be bumping. Id leave the door speakers alone for now. Unless they sound like balls, but I know the new grand cherokees have a nice system, not sure of the libertys.
