Utah mining history is one of the reasons you see so many gap jumps coming out of Utah. Little Cottonwood Canyon is a mecca for mine tailing piles, and the 550-inch average snowfall doesn’t hurt either. I call Grizzly Gulch in Little Cottonwood Canyon “The Greatest Superpark On Earth.” Note: All of these gap jumps were hand-built and some required up to 200 man-hours. Everything has to be perfect, not just the jump. Kris Ostness’ favorite quote on the subject: “A perfect in-run makes for a perfect landing.”

About Brent Benson: Photographer Brent Benson (brentbensonphotography.com) was one of the catalysts behind the monster gap craze that swept Utah in the late 90s, early 00s, launching the careers of pro skiers such as Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, the Collins Brothers, and Jamie Pierre, and putting otherwise underground local Jedis such as Chad Zurinskas, Rick Roblewski and Chris Minneci in the skiing limelight. As such, he and Kris Ostness were often the only ones on scene to document the first time many of these behemoths were hit. In those days, the kicker was often destroyed as soon as the session ended to eliminate copy cats. We asked Brent to send us some of his best moments in monster gap history… And we’re happy that he kindly obliged. Enjoy.

You guys need to stop embedding articles and photos in threads...it sucks traffic away from sites who desperately need it. This really isn't any different from AP destroying independent news outlets. If someone is too lazy to fucking click through to an article, well, fuck off.

As far as I'm concerned, I think NS should be held responsible in instances like this, and mods should delete posts like that.

yea ns is responsible, because without ns 10 people beyond the op would have seen this article, as im not sure that many people are perusing through powmag.com regularly. its a double edged sword how can you get upset about exposure even if only half of the people go to the actual article, its hundreds more than would have seen it anyway.

i think the only reason people dont persue powmag.com is because for the most part there is better content on noobschoolers or teton gravity. fuck man we get instant tweets and updates whenever the hottest new dub goes down.

but fair enough, im sure you wont be able to respond to this message for a week, because you will be on powmag.com keeping up with skiing.

if it makes you feel any better, i looked through them all before bringing the wilson one back for a relevant comment. tell you what, ill go click through their site some more

for real though, i understand what youre saying but you cant expect to have any sort of good reaction when you say it like that..be a bit more diplomatic and im sure people will respond much better

Damn, that's huge. I can't imagine just standing next to that jump. I get scared when I hit 40s. It said in the the caption it was like 165 or some crazy shit like that.

plus watch it in this video, and notice how theres no flat before the jump, just has to haul ass in a suddenly boom he's in the air

don't know what time it is in the video, sorry, but you should watch the whole thing because it's naaaasty (see my comments in the thread).

I don't hate NS, and the suggestion that I post nothing positive is a joke and not worthy of more of a response. To the other guy, this has nothing to do with "my" site (BroBomb is not my site, and I haven't contributed anything of note in months). My original post was harsh, but I stand behind it because the end result is that sites that work hard to produce quality content, like powdermag.com, will cease to exist without traffic. Say what you want about my approach or me personally, but I'm right regardless. So, embed and copy and paste away, but don't complain when there's not much to embed or copy and paste down the road.

I'm not stoked with the turn this thread has taken. That being said, I disagree with you.

Firstly, If powder magazine had an issue with this thread, I'm sure they would have acted by now as they have most definitely seen it.

Secondly, How does this thread retract from powder traffic? Do they say, hey, that was a sick article, I want to go check out Powder's website to see if they have any other cool stuff? The article was just exposed to a bunch of people who may not have ever even considered going to powders website. It seems to me that powder got more exposure out of this.

Originally this thread was just a link posted then someone posted pics and cut and pasted. That seems like the issue you care about. When it comes down to it, thats reality. You wish only the link got posted. I understand. However, Don't slippery slope this saying it will kill powder. I think its actually the furthest thing from the truth.
