because the case involves a lot of off duty LAPD officers that worked as body guards for death row records (tupac's record label)

99% of professional body guards are off duty cops and there is a huge amount of violence between opposing gangs. naturally that would be something the FBI would take interest in.

plus, i don't know if you know this, but the FBI gets involved in any high profile crime.
