Canada is a great country for sure, but please don't claim that you have good beers... I'm originally from Belgium, have been studying in Vancouver for a while and I can definitely tell you that the beer is a shit over here, and food in general.

Besides this I love this country, the list would be too long for the positive points, but this comment about beer just shocked me :/ Just come over Belgium and Germany and try the local beers.

my dads friend from Belgium and specially orders beer from a belgium company because he can't fucking take Canadian beer seriously. depends on the person. I like kokenee, brewhouse, old english 40's, and last but not least, molson. it's fucking grand

friendly people, THE SKI BINDING, good weed, good beer, the phone, insulin, free health care, the gas mask, the g-suit, the snowblower, snowmobiles, the avro arrow, we invented basketball, bone marrow compatibility test, pace maker, washing machines, electron microscopes, IMAX system, sonar, tracer bullets, TV, cancer blood test, poutine, part of the blackberry, air hockey, real hockey, robertson screw bit (by far better than fillips), oil spill clean ups, canadarm, the zipper, discovery of cystic fibrosis gene, the light bulb, chocolate bars, ginger ale, instant food, kayaks, kerosene, lacrosse, stanley cup, velcro, degradable plastic, environmently friendly garbage bags, electric car prototypes, highway guard rails, so basically a lot of things that keep you and the people you love alive, safe and entertained, and this is just a random gathering, there are thousands more. really read that list if you dislike Canada and think how significant some of those were in history.

i garauntee the ethnic(chinese, thai, vietnamese, indian, latin etc) food is far superior in Vancouver than in belgium.

The "white people foods" are obviously not gonna measure up to most of western europe.

I agree when you talk about same price/place where to get the food, but the thing is that we don't have any Chinese/thai/indian fast foods, and there are a lot over here, which make me think about bad food more easily. But for restaurant food you're right.

im not talking sit-down restaurant, gourmet ethnic foods. i mean the hole in the wall, you cant understand what the owners are saying kind of place...the real authentic places are the best IMO...just never, ever look in the kitchen. it will probly ruin it for you.

And ya, nowhere in the world touches the west coast of europe for gourmet food.

the whole pretend your canadian while traveling thing is fucking retarded. only the biggest and most sore vaginas ever would do this. the rest of the world does not give a shit where you're from. and they most certainly dont treat canadians better than americans. they treat good people better than bad people and thats pretty much it.
ive spent a good 2-3 years of my life in other countries and i never have tried to hide the fact that im american, most people are stoked when you tell them and want to know more. there may be some douche bags out there that might dislike you because they have a problem with america, but i have yet to meet one, and if i do, i dont want their respect.

this is how these thread always go: Canadians make a claim about why the US sucks (e.g. uneducated hicks, gun-wielding maniacs) and then either don't realize that the same types of people exist in Canadian society, or they just straight up refuse to believe it. Of course the numbers would be higher for these marginal groups in the States b/c since we have 275 million more people in the country. Do you really believe Canada is free of morons? How about when I go to TD Bank in Montreal where I have had an account for 2 years and been stopping in once a week over those 2 years and the teller asks me for my ID, I show her my Vermont ID, and this is her response: "Vermont? What's that?"
Me: "It's a state one hour south of this city."
Her: "Oh really? I didn't know the US was so close!"
Me: "Yeah maybe you should visit sometime."
And this is really what anyone needs to do on both sides of the border. You can't generalize a country of 300+ million people based upon your one trip there or the fact that you watch CBC news every night. Nor can an American judge Canada based on the one time they visited Montreal and stayed on Ste-Catherine Street the whole time. The Canadian argument just seems to be a bunch of ready-made excuses such as "Well Southern Ontario is pretty much part of America anyway so we don't count that". That's like an American saying "well the South sucks so you can't consider that the States".
