I originally owned a one ski quiver of the Armada El Rey, 2009. It worked well, but unfortunately the tip is snapping off. I got a pair of Kung Fugas for a powder ski, and now I want a park ski. I've been looking at the Armada Alpha 1, and from what I have seen it appears to be a good ski for me.
What do you think? Is there any quirks or reasons I should not buy it?
155 lbs, 5'9", 15 years old, lots of park and jibs with friends, powder when I can get to it (that's why I have Kung Fugas) been skiing since I was 4, just want to get better in the park.
They're a fun ski. Ski a little short, but if you can get by that they're awesome. Somewhat stiff underfoot, not so much in the tips and tails. Fun to butter around on, pretty solid on jumps. I ended up selling mine because they weren't for me, but they are definitely a legit ski. Feel free to ask me any other questions if you want.
Actually i have a question, I read that they are supposed to need to be waxed often if you want to hit rails (because of the race base), is this the case?
You should wax them often anyway, not just because you want to hit rails. The race base is pretty durable, just as durable as any other base, maybe even more so, but it's a bit more high maintenance. If you want to go fast, you're going to need to wax it every few days. Take care of it and it'll be just fine.
