Renting skis at MHSSC?

Most airlines charge 100 dollars to check skis (oversized baggage) 1 way. At MHSSC their site says you can rent for 120 bucks a week. Since I'm only going for a week it's 80 bucks cheaper to rent. My question is, can you actually rent decent park skis there?

i'd rather save the cash and try new skis. plus they're just skis. sure they might feel a bit different but they're still just skis.

Damn which airlines are you flying? I've looked at continental, united, delta, northwest and they all want 100 bucks...

Oh shit I think I just thought of a solution.... I'll wrap all my clothes around my skis inside my ski bag and I'll take my boots and helmet as a carry on. This way I won't need to pay to check a second bag and I'll only be paying 30 dollars extra to bring my own skis. :D

Yeah i think you're looking at oversized bags aka over 50lbs and with two pairs of skis, boots helmet and poles my ski bag is 49lbs.

Talk to Decker, the camp and K2 often get skis for campers. Fo' free.

Yeah but there's not only a weight restriction.. Theres certain dimensions that you can't exceed and my skis are long enough to be considered oversize.
From continental's website:
  • Customers who travel with checked baggage exceeding 62 linear inches (157 cm) (total length + width + height) will be charged at the rate of $100.00 per piece for travel within the U.S., and between the U.S. and Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Customers to Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America with oversize baggage will be charged at the rate of $200.00 per piece.
  • These charges are in addition to any charge assessed for additional or overweight baggage.
  • Baggage measuring more than 115 in (292 cm) (total outside dimensions; length + width + height) will not be accepted as checked baggage.

I forget how I did it, but I was able to reach the camp early and talk to Decker. I got some brand new extreme's (before they came out) and everything went smoothly

Yea, if you know what you are doing at hood you can demo skis, next years skis generally in govy for free. Decker can probably make it happen real easy because his sponsor K2 has a dope condo up one of the side streets that will literally mount a brand new pair of whatever ski in their lineup for you to use if they don't have the ski mounted up that you want to use. They are super friendly there at K2, hell they convinced me to buy several pairs of skis from them in past years. Talk to Todd Bracher he is usually there in the summers, and he is higher on the K2 totem pole. When you are there the K2 is up the right side street next to the govy general store and it is off one of those side streets

This. One kid got to demo new K2s for the entire session thanks to Malone.
One other thing you might try is mailing your skis to camp. It's probably cheaper.

airlines consider skis+bootbag as 1 regular bag. (normally likw $25). its not considered oversize.

i flew south west out to tahoe, had one checked bag and my ski bag and didn't pay anything extra. just thought you should know.

Ohhhh it is $25 dollars I just called continental and they said ski bags were exempt from oversize fees cuz its sporting equipment yesssss

I work at MHSSC..
Loads of campers either have problems with their skis, didnt bring their personal skis, or just want to tryout next years models..
so like Tucks said, you can demo from k2, but the demo location of each rep changes summer to summer. So you would probably find todd and k2 in a different spot this summer.
Malone and nolan have a good connection with todd and k2, especially when decker will be here this summer.
Like p-fo said, since we have a good connection to k2, usually you can only demo for a day or two, but with our coaches, they have been able to have some of our campers on a demo ski for the whole week.

So we also have kids mail their skis, because that is a little cheaper.
So your choice, both of these options are fine.

last year this fat kid brought only ski blades to camp...... so malone hooked him up with some nice K2s and the kid left them base down on the ground out in the rain. he thought they were too long

stop in at mountain soul in govy they can probs hook you up. also look into shipping your skis out MHSSC someone did this when i was out their last summer just make sure its cool with mike. btw what session?

mountain soul no longer exists. k2 or any other demo shop will let you use some whips with counselor/coach signatures..

yea, pretty sure K2 is cemented to that location because it is owned by K2, it is their condo. However, most other reps do change their location year after year

why you wouldnt want to take your own skis is beyond me
what i do with my big ogio ski bag is but everything in it, skis, boots, clothes, helmet etc, then a carryon with ipod laptop camera hubba bubba etc i have never spent over 100 total for luggage
