Being a 17 year old kid with a junior year education i have no fucking clue about anything and always tended to stick to the liberal side of though for no reason other than videos like arabian posted, but that has changed, now i just have a balanced take on left/rightness

I guess I overlooked that, but I pretty much categorize myself in the same way as socially liberal / fiscally conservative although there are definitely a few differences here and there. As for the "Right Wing" which I guess is what this thread is about anyways, I'm over hoping that it will become a rational, contributing voice. Glenn Beck and Bill O'Riley can have it. The name is so far tarnished at this point it is beyond saving which is sad IMO.

I thought this was going to end in a shit storm but it didn't, bravo to us.

coming from the Liberal perspective all of this makes sense, and i can even sympathize with their argument. (using their playbook)

all of these things seek to limit government expenditures and create a more equitable society.

afterall if the government is going to pay for your heart bypass they might as well do everything to insure it wont happen in the first place? there is a logical progression to their actions. i have to give them that.

I come from a far more socialist country than yours, and you couldn't believe how happy many people coming from the US are here. Even here we really do glorify individual values over a group, but as individuals we belong to a group that supports each others' lives and decisions.

It's funny how the conservative party over there wants to give the government more and more rights to strip down the individual rights of its citizens (Homeland security, terrorism suspects, the unethical flight inspections, the amount of Internet supervision etc.)

You cannot buy anything automatic without a class 3 weapons permit (extremely difficult to get and expensive)

All the AK-47's and AR-15's you see people with a semi-auto, not fully auto.

An interesting read on France's healthcare system. (How it is not completely socialized - most still buy supplemental insurance and how it sits somewhere inbetween the U.S. and Canadian systems. Its not to in depth but its a good read.)

-i've always been a bit pissed that this is how the law is described. it's literally just like any other law, to say that it's just "the government forcing you to buy something" is a pretty deceptive way of putting it.

at what point does the collective over step its bounds for you personally? at what point does the collective no longer hold claim to your existence?

IMO if anything the times have changed to make a "everyone for himself" a more realistic model. (to put it crassly) because the mediums of exchange are so vastly superior today than they were even 200 years ago.

I know the inner city is fucked cause of it but you don't think education/judicial system isn't partly to blame either? Most of the guns used in crimes like that are USUALLY purchased illegally aren't they?

My main point is that everyone makes mistakes, be it the greatest doctors/health care in the world, or the shittiest. I don't know how your grandpa passed away and how socialized medicine affected that result, but it's not ideally something not to be strived for, it's essential.

And for that, I dont see any opposition from either side, personally. Anyone who says you cant have a hamburger because you might get heart disease is blaming the burger, and not the true cause of heart disease, as far as I'm concerned - and if that's the case theyre just an idiot who hasn't even taken a proper nutrition course in their life. Shit, Theres a restaurant in Arizona called the Heart Attack Grill which makes gnarly fucking hamburgers with pure lard and epic amounts of cheese and shit, and I guarandamntee that the meat they serve on burgers there is far better than what you'll see on a Big-Mac. (I have had a double bypass burger from there before and it was fucking delish)

That's why I'm all for hunting, and buying from Farmers markets, because I want to know where the fuck my goddamn food came from, and dont want some garbage thats been recirculated all over the place entering my gorgeous-sexy-babe-magnet, man-bod.


-As for guns, I'm all for em for hunting and target practice and all that jazz, but shit, these guys rolling around flaunting their guns in public with holsters and having assult rifles on their back at political rallies are just trying to throw some silly point around in the same way that some Gays become 'overly sexual' at gay pride parades in San Francisco, just because Nudity is technically legal there in certain areas, and they can get away with being ridiculous in public. That kinda over-the-top kinda LETS MAKE OUR POINT HEARD BY BEING DISRUPTIVE! kinda shit is just silly and doesn't HALP the cause. I see it as too much like LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME HAHA YOU CANT GET ME BECAUSE I'M PROTECTED BY LOOPHOLES!

Anyone who wants less gun control should start controlling those who send mad guns to mexican drug lords, because those guys are the ones who REALLY fuck with the shituation...


I don't know enough about France to know about their car insurance shit, but in America, driving is a privilege and should continue to be, whereas the definition of a Democratic Government, in my opinion, makes healthcare a right. You can live without car insurance - you can use public transportation, even if it is more of a hassle for you, but you cant live if you are given the choice to die by liver failure or infection, just because your insurance decides to not cover the treatment of both...

if you examine what you posted, you will notice that the market solved your problem.

the government did not have to mandate some food be of a higher quality, you as a consumer demanded it and the producer saw an untapped market and filled it.

besides, there needs to be "inferior" food just like there needs to be slums or "inferior" housing.

I wouldnt say the market 100% solved my problem... if there were lower government mandated standards for food in general, then there would be lower standards for high quality food, I believe. And by that, I personally think the standards should be way higher.

There does not need to be 'inferior food'... unless you want to spend more money on healthcare for the poor people who live in slums who have to buy shitty food that gives them botchelism/salmanila, or spend more on burying them when they die of it, or smell their decaying bodies as their corpses line the streets... (totally slipping slope there haha)

These are what I want too.  But only because I am somewhat voluntaryist.  I also realize it would be hard to create peace in our country without a government so with that said I feel that the government should benefit everyone and not just certain individuals.  Kinda inbetween conservative and liberal I guess.  If I am standing for keeping a strong government I guess I would consider myself liberal in my views, if I am anti-government I guess I would be leaning more towards conservative.

I really hate how people classify themselves within a political party.  Take some views from that party, some from another and make it your own.  I hate how politicians have to fall into a political party in order to make it far in the elections.

I like you. I hate the party system. Why can't politicians just run as a human, and tell about their ideologies. I take my views from both sides, but as of now, most of mine come from the left. MOST. I am not a Dem by any means. A human.

why would the quality of food decrease? would the demands of the consumer change?

inferior food serves a purpose. just like everyone cannot afford to purchase their own home, or rent a fancy apartment. everyone cannot have veal or filet mignon for a main course. rather some peoples situation lends to them eating an inferior food for dinner.

Look at the most inspirational leaders of history (really barring MLK and Ghandi though). Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Lenin, Franco, Castro and others. They all were identifiable with a party/system. It makes it easier for people (the common public) to identify with them.

alot of the people who are in this thread who support conservative views very much fall in the Libertarian category. Libertarian is pretty different from the bible thumping GOP.


can we all agree that the republican party is pretty much a joke right now, and all the smart, up-and-coming republicans are trying to lay low right now until all this religous conservative bullshit blows over.

As an athlete some of my views are very libertarian (ie survival of the fittest, you reap what you sow), while i am very liberal in many other areas. the "celebrity conservatives" have so ruined the republican party's image that the GOP is a total joke.

I mean really? what star in the republican party, right now, is not an extremely polarizing figure? john mccain is the only one whose policies and beliefs are not way out in right field. and ol' John is hated by the GOP.


That is why, we need to amend the constitution to allow for Governators to be president, so he can whip the gihrly men in congress into shape. Seriously though, he actually did a pretty good job with CA when the floor fell out from the housing market, and economy as a whole.

Australia is the beset country in the world. Koalas, Kangaroos, Wombats AND if you have a trade/job that they can use (doctor, lawyer, specialized construction and such) you can move there and like get citizen ship in under a year.

Plus the Aussies don't have those annoying wannabe French people from Quebec to deal with. Them and their Fleur Di Liese shit.

The way we established out system of electing officials, it was inevitable. The only reasonable chance a person has of winning is rallying support for a more vague set of ideologies. If a candidate ran on their exact specific ideals first time around, all their opponent had to do was pander to more widely accepted ideas and they were in. As soon as this was realized to bases formed that created the parties. With few exceptions, no person will ever be elected if they do not run under one of the major parties. And because it only takes a plurality, not majority to win an election, most times when a third party does pop up and make a run it will just split votes with the party it is most closely aligned with (See Clinton winning with 43% of the popular vote.)

sorry, i shouldn't have phrased it like that, gun laws are by no means the only things fucking up the inner cities. property tax determining educational funding and the whole cycle of poverty are surely more to blame for the overall state of urban america. i'm still convinced that halfway competent gun laws would be a huge deal, and frankly, more important than anyone's "right" to purchase 15 assault rifles at once. guns are damn easy to get, and while guns used in gang slayings and the like are usually purchased illegally at one point along the line, almost ever gun was at one point purchased legitimately, then sold to someone else who winds up accidentally killing a 4 year old girl with it (or something like that). the laws make it incredibly easy for someone to buy a enough guns to arm a small paramilitary force, pump the guns into the ghetto, not get caught, then do it again without anyone noticing. there's no good reason i can think of that someone should fight for our right to purchase a metric fuckton of automatic weapons at once without a background check or record being taken of it or the weapons being traced unless he's, say, in the pocket of the gun industry.
