-Do you think our sport is stagnent at the moment?
No, everyone is getting better. Theres little kids that can do things that werent even though of 5 years ago. The pros are doing new things all the time too.

-Do you think it still becoming more and more popular/'cool' in comparison to the sport industry or have we somewhat reached a plateau?
It's getting cooler. Not as many people ask me why my skis are turned up in the back.

-What about talking to people (who aren't involved in the sport at all), what is their reaction to your being a 'skier'?
they usually say 'why don't you snowboard'. A few people know whats going on.


-What kind of role do girls in the sport now have?
They're going to start making names for themselves and influence many more people to start skiing.

There are people out there who are seeing that skiing isn't the way it was back in the 80's. It's shocking yes, but skiing has changed, and people are catching on.

-What about talking to people (who aren't involved in the sport at all), what is their reaction to your being a 'skier'?
I get laughed at when I say I ski. People ask why I don't snowboard, people think it's stupid. But, people who actually snowboard will think more of it because they see me & my friends at the hill so it changes their opinion.

-What kind of role do girls in the sport now have?
Years ago, all the girls flocked over to snowboarding, as did guys, because it was 'the cool thing to do'. Whereas independent minds stayed with skiing. Now that the guys are switching back over to skiing, the girls are looking into it and realizing it's not the way it was 6 years ago and they're starting to get into it.

Skiing is becoming more and more popular and socially 'accepted' nowadays. where im from ppl dont ski, they either go to school, sell drugs, or farm. the ski population here is nil.

when i tell ppl i ski they think its cool because i make sure they know what i do. they think i race, so when i say i do jumps its the emediat, oooooo so like snowboarding right? all i can do is say yes, then they might have a grasp on it.

Girls are stepping it up incredibly huge now. 270's onto rails, corks, huge pipe hits, u name it the girls are ruling it. its crazy to think sarah and kristi were pretty much the only girls gettin play a year ago. now the line girls are stepping it up, salomon and 4frnt have girls who are going to start owning the scene. im glad girls are finally starting to get their props cuz its long over due.

I'll assume this mostly applies to freestyle/park skiing.

I don't think the sport is stagnant at all. If anything, we're progressing too quickly. At this rate we'll be seeing bio 1170s onto rails soon. I know it's fairly cliche by now, but rather than end up as snow-figure-skaters trying to put as many spins into a trick as possible, the style needs to continue to be important. I t might take more skill to get a 1440 around, but I'll take one of Descheneaux's effortless landings over that any day.

I don't know if we're more popular or cool on the hill, but we're definitely accepted. I don't see anybody saying skis don't belong in the park anymore, and although we're still a minority, there's usually a skier in the park somewhere.

People I talk to who don't ski or snowboard (or just snowboard about twice a year) still identify 'skiing' with flat tails, and not at all with park. I don't usually talk to people much if they don't participate in the sport at all... they tend not to care that much. I can't blame them, I probably wouldn't be able to offer much to a conversation about cricket.

In the past 2 years, I've notied a huge increase in girls skiing in the park. This past season, there was a group of 4 or 5 girls on 720s and 10s jibbing and hitting the tables like the rest of us. Better yet, they actually know what they're doing, unlike some of the gaper snowboard girls I see in the park who obviously have more interest in the snowboarders than the sport itself. I think we have a situation where the girls in newschool skiing can actually make the sport look better, and from what I've seen (both with my own eyes and from other sources), they've really been stepping it up and making that happen. Hell, Ash B is better than most guys.
