Olympic Announcement

Hey Newschoolers!

I just wanted to give you all the heads up that after years of delays, sometime in the next 24 hours the International Olympic Committee is expected to make their decision on the possible inclusion of halfpipe and slopestyle skiing in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

Rest assured that no matter what the outcome (my sources are telling me that pipe is for sure, and slopestyle has a really good chance), we'll have an article in the news the second an announcement is made.

Being in the olympics will ultimately mean way more money for film riders too and many more lucrative opportunities for pretty much all freeskiers. So many more goombas will buy ski videos.

This is such an opportunity for our community/lifestyle/industry/sport. I remember being on the fence when this was first brought up for the 2010 olympics, wanting to preserve the "core" feel of skiing. But that's kinda getting lost anyways so this would be sooooo sick. It would bring freeskiing to many more countries, pretty awesome concept when you think of it.

And with slope being an olympic event, mountains would have extra incentives to maintain and build amazing parks. We directly benefit from this. Excited to see the verdict.

i really hope it happens, but could really have several effects on skiing.

it will probably bring tons of exposure, but it could ruin some of the free spirit and "undergroundness" of park skiing. its all been said already, but just my 2 cents

I think if slopestyle got exposure to the whole world it would encourage resorts to invest more time and money in their parks.  Like other people said more kids will start entering our sport if it becomes an Olympic event... more interest=more customers for resorts.

Excited to see what this brings for the sport.
