If anybody else wants to know more about Alva a great movie to watch would be Dogtown/Z-Boys. They depict Alva in his childhood and show how he acted toward his friends and family. They also have great plots and story lines.

Story was awesome.

Anyone know how to do the title where everything is blacked out except for the letters which are at 0 transparency? Wanna learn how to do that.

I've been fooling around with it. You can use the travel alpha matte in FCE.

using final cut, you need 3 layers. The solid black background belongs on layer 1 (v1), the text layer goes on v2, and the video that you want to be playing in the letters goes on v3. make sure the text you have is white. then select the video on v3 and go to modify > composite mode > travel matte - alpha. thats how its done, pretty simple
