First Showreel (not skiing)

After my first year of working more commercially, I put together a reel that showcases the work I have done for clients over the months. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about it - I think it's a bit long and some of the shots are not needed, but I was wondering if there are certain things when constructing a reel that are favored and / or frowned upon.

Should a reel encompass a lot of shots from each project to give a sense of content, or should you be trying to only pull the very best shots to promote your cinematography only? Also, should it be edited heavily, using graphics, layers, etc. or should the editing be simple to just show the shot compositions?






Any help would be greatly appreciated!

wow. that was really well done. I was very impressed through the entire thing. Good work. I personally thought that was exactly what a commercial showreel should look like. once again. amazing job.

It's nice, but too long and repetitive. trim it way down, shoot for a minute or so. Don't make it much faster though, you want to show off the shots. If you're gonna keep it grouped by project add some titles, (use company logos, potential clients love even the most simple compositing.) At the very least a head title so people know what they're about to watch. Good non-offensive song choice too.

i felt like there were a TONNE of shots you could take out. you had some really good shots and then some really mediocre ones. all the ones that don't make you go, oh sick, take them out

cut it down to two minutes max, include some more interesting editing. There wasn't a lot going on there to add interest and variety with the way you cut it
