so sick, this is gonna be the future of moguls ... but unfortunatly the guy who will do the first dub in a contest won't have that much points because the judges will say it's too ... newschool, moguls is a conservative sports from what I heard

I've always loved moguls and hope this is going to be the future of moguls. For a time there it looked like it was gonna go a bit to aerialist.

^If i could choose a perfectly built park, or a nice slushy zipper line (IE bear mountain at killy) i'd have to go with the bumps. Their so much fun, especially on a nice sunny day in the spring.

how are those wackflips. from what i understand, a wackflip is really a backflips with your shoulders slightly off-axis simply from grabbing japan, let's say. for example, if you watch bobby's triple, there isn't really significant rotation, more wack-flippy than anything.

I totally dig it. I think its awesome to see a bit more freedom being allowed into moguls.

Of course what is funny about this... is if they hadn't fucking been so god damn restrictive in the first place, then nobody would have left moguls to do newschool.

Oh how the revolution in skiing has touched just about everything....

yes it is possible, in singles it's 25% jumps 25% time and 50% turns, however thats a simplified version it is somewhat more complex, you also need to crack a certain time to get time points and then the faster you go above that the more time points you get. the certain tIme is determined by the pace time which is calculated by the length of the course. Not a hundred percent sure how duels is judged, but for most comps it's out of 25 and whoever gets the most of those points moves on, and these are also determined by turns, jumps and time. so to answer your question yes someone can make up for there time with high difficulty and well executed tricks

Turns are judged out of 5, you have 5 turn judges, and the highest and lowest scores are excluded for a maximum score of 15.0. Speed is compared to a pace time (calculated by the angle and length of the course) If you make pace time I think you get a 5.0 on time points, but you can get up to 7.5 points if you go faster.

Air is judged out of 2.5 by two judges and averaged for how well you did it, and then multiplied by a number based on how hard it is. For example when I was competing, a backflip had a difficulty of 1.0 and a dspin was like 1.3. So if I did a perfect backflip I would get 2.5 for my first air and a perfect dspin would be like 2.5*1.3. This makes airs roughly a maximum of 7.5 (if you did the hardest tricks perfectly) however one shitty thing is as the tricks get insanly hard, they still never get above 1.5dd so your jumps will NEVER get more than 7.5points.

The good news is that while on paper jumps look insignificant, many mogul comps are won on jumps. Usually courses that are easy to ski are going to be won on jumps because most guys are making few mistakes and are approaching maximum time points (not to mention going huge)

only problem with allowing dubs in moguls is that theyre a lot more dangerous. in the park, you get a perfect landing, most of the time, that goes on for like 30 feet minimum (im bad at estimating, you get the point tho) so if you land a little sketchy you can still ride it out. if you land a little off in moguls, much less if you barely land it, youre booking it straight into moguls which could really fuck you up. and if you let people start doing dubs, next thing you know everyone needs to do dubs or you dont have a shot at winning, and with such dangerous landing conditions, that could potentially be really bad

Why would a ski discipline limit the amount of accrabatic spins and in what way he/she did them?

I understand the riduclously hard mogul bit but but by limiting shit, doesn't that mean everyone at the top are doing the same tricks?

Its prestigeous like hardcore mogul ski'ers hate on freestylers like it was with ski'ing and boarding was a while ago?

just a quick question about the course...do they cover it in leaves so the skiers can see the contours better? I've seen similar crap on aerials landings...

I agree they should not limit the airs. so do most of the athletes (and the only reason they wouldn't is they are too scared to do doubles). Not everyone at the top is doing the same tricks, but it is all very similar. Basically a world cup you are going to see back full, back double full, dspin 7, dspin 10, backflip and lincon. Now I agree that IS stale, although everyone at the top of ALL freestyle disciplines are doing the same tricks.

This hate on freestylers bit is nonsense though. First of all, mogul skiers ARE freestylers. Mogul skiing is the roots of our sport. It's a shame that freeskiing started off on such bad terms with traditional freestyle, but you have to remember it was not because of the ATHLETES that the founders quit, it was because of the FIS and their top-down approach on what skiing was supposed to be like. These guys wanted to create a sport where the skiers did what they wanted, and not what some high level FIS guy wanted them to.

I think it is ridiculous to say prestigious mogul skiers hate on park skiers though. First of all many of them probably ski park, and almost all of them watch the ski movies and get just as stoked on them. If you have been involved with moguls in the past 5 years, you will know that the fun vibe is back in the sport 100%. All the people who want to ski for money or fame or just to look cool will have a much better shot over on the other side of things. 99% of mogul skiers are doing it now because it is FUN!

The attitudes in the ski community have changed drastically in the past 10 years. When I started off skiing, there were few guys doing park stuff. Everyone was just doing it because it was fun as hell. No one cared what clothes you had or how beat up you dynastar twinboard concepts were, at comps all the athletes would be screaming "yeah buddy" when you were in the start gate. we would claim tricks when we landed them, and nobody gave a fuck if your first switch 720 was a boot grab. Now days, that vibe that made me fall in love with skiing is largely gone from the park scene, the only place I can find it is at a mogul comp. I don't miss competing in slopestlye or big air comps one bit, but I miss mogul skiing and the community so damn bad.

Man, if FIS allows doubles in mogul competitions, what will that mean for the ariels guys? I know they've been physically able to do quad flips for some years now, but FIS hasn't allowed them in competition... this could be big.
