Bridger bowl season pass

get a big sky pass. on sale for $590 until the end of september and a lot more terrain. unless you are really pumped on the ridge i think big sky is a better option.

im pretty sure Bridger doesn't offer any special price for students and the big sky pass is only 40 bucks more than last years preseason price, go big sky thats the cheapest Ive seen it for college since Ive been in bozeman.

there is a bus that leaves from campus near the sub, which is really nice if your in the dorms

my cousin skis up there and goes to msu, there is a bus to big sky and briger, the combo pass for both mtns is like 1500 but its about half price for students if i remember correctly. regionals for that area are fairly active also so you should check those out for more info. your gonna have a sick winter next year

theres a bus to big sky that leaves from right on campus. its not free anymore but if you buy a pass it comes out to like a buck 75 a day. dirt cheap compared to the gas it takes.

talking to MSU students, they say that everyone skis at bridger bowl, and only the rich kids go to Big Sky. Any ways being so close to Bozeman, you could get so many days in at Bridger

big sky is really where its at, a cheep bus, cheeper pass, more train and over all less crowded, a terrain park (not really important but when the snow sucks rails are fun), hot tubs to poach and better events and better places to party. if you buy another pass your a fool.

passes are about exactly the same price (at least they were this year). Big Sky is less crowded and more terrain, just farther away. The bus ride to Big Sky is 1 hour and 30 mins from campus. It only takes 1 hour in a car though if you are willing to pay more for gas.

You probably talked to a bunch of ridge hippies who think they are better than Big Sky skiers because they hike to their turns.

Bridger has sick gnarly terrain, but hour+ waits on Slushmans for pow days sucks, as does the general crowded insanity of pow days.

With Big Sky you have way more terrain, thus way less crowds. A park for keeping entertained when the snow sucks. Generally just way more awesome imo. Really the only thing it doesnt have that Bridger does is ridiculous slot chutes that are mandatory straightlines.

Not to mention Bridger day tickets arent that expensive, you can always have a few days there for relatively cheap without a pass.

Also debating on which pass to get.

Big Skye sounds way better, but 1-1.5 hours to get there sounds like a pain... Normally I step out side, put on my ski's and ski to the lift.

If a combined pass is 750$ vs single 590$ then I'm just gonna get a combi-pass

Big Sky sucks. I skied there this season and it blew. The tram line is always way too long, almost too long for it to even be worth it. South bowl is cool but it gets played really fast. There are asshole tourists and pretentious old dudes everywhere. Challenger lift is fun and the A to Z chutes are the best part of the mountain, but overall bridger is way better. Never really any lift lines. More fun terrain and it is like 20 minutes away. Get a bridger and a Moonlight pass if you really want. The attitudes and Moonlight and Bridger are so much better.

The combined pass is for Big Sky/Moonlight, FYI. I think Moonlight is selling college passes (or they were) for $299, which is an awesome deal.

As far as picking a mountain goes, each has its strengths and weaknesses. Bridger is really convenient for skiing before/after class, has more technical terrain, and bigger--although inconsistent--storms. Their backcountry access is pretty nice too, if you're into that.

Big Sky has bigger, more open terrain, and lots of rocks. Lots and lots of rocks. And some more rocks. Just don't go where there aren't tracks and you'll be fine, though. There's definitely a lot more terrain, but it's also a lot more open. A-Z has some technical stuff, but you'll generally be skiing faster, wider lines than you would at Bridger.

Neither mountain is better than the other, they're just different. I've skied a lot of days at both, but I'm skipping a pass this year and opting for more touring, and spending the $600 I would have spent on a pass on a few yurt trips or something fun like that. But I'm getting off topic...you won't be bummed with either area.

Actually, I take that back. You'll be bummed if you're a park skier and you get a Bridger pass. But I have no idea why you would move here to ski park.

Big sky is better in almost every way. Less crowds, more terrain, better food, cheap beer, good park, etc etc etc.

Bridger is sick if you wanna earn your turns all day and get super gnarly.

I highly recommend Big Sky over Bridger and I have skied at Big Sky for 3 seasons now. Even though I have had some of the best days of my life at Bridger I have also had some incredibly days at Big Sky.

Also the kids you want to be skiing with are the ones who ski at Big Sky. Unless you like someone telling you their favorite brand of granola or that park skiing is ruining America.

My 2 cents. If you hate park ski Bridger. If you like yourself than get a Big Sky pass.

I agree. But I also like to have park as an option for seasons like this one where we dont get any snow.

i feel the need to recreate my post, so here it goes.

let's begin with bridger. if you want narrow chutes, technical terrain, good cliffs and bc access, look no further. it may only be a 20 minute drive from bozeman, but consequently it gets packed on pow days and weekends. also, don't ski here if you wanna be the best skier on the mountain... because bridger breeds a damn good skier. every day will send you home dead tired and a better skier. people ski at bridger for the skiing, and the skiing only. i think it's an awesome vibe, but expect to be laughed at if your tall tee drops to your knees.

big sky's the most resort-like of the three. this isn't entirely a bad thing, though, because the tourist crowds disperse on the easiest of terrain. i wouldn't waste much time worrying about the drive, either. buy a dirt cheap bus pass and take a nap... life's not too hard. the tram line can get pretty long, but i've also had seemingly random sleeper days where it's dumping and walk-on tram spots and walk-on couoir slots are available. the comment above about us getting "no snow this year" is pure bullshittery. it's a windy, snowy, brutal mountain that always has pockets of snow to be found. i skied more powder this year than last, despite us getting less snow this year, simply by putting in more effort and knowing the mountain better. i wish i could give an exact figure, but i have little doubt i got faceshots more than half the days. the peak's the obvious spot to go when there's new snow, but a bit of rope ducking on the lower mountain can yield some of the better pow turns anywhere. take the 6am bus, get in line 45 mins early, talk to locals, and you'll be amazed what's hidden on the mountain. it's worth it every time.

lastly, there's rumors of this modern ski development on the north aspect of lone mountain, known as "moonlight basin." few brave souls have ever skied there, and it's reported that they sold 7 lift tickets this year. but in all seriousness, moonlight is rad. i view it as a big sky and bridger hybrid. you've got a gnarly ridgeline (headwaters), but you're still on lone mountain and have no crowds to be seen. the fact that it's north-facing is almost enough on its own. big sky's southern aspects (a-z's, lenin, marx, liberty, castro's, the wave, liberty, and dakota) have sweet terrain but can go through horrific melt and refreeze cycles. but don't take my word for it... hike the a-z's and headwaters in one day and marvel at how much better the snow in the headwaters is. throw a moonlight pass on top of big sky and you'll get access to the north summit, which, IMO, has some of the best snow on the mountain. if you pay 99 bucks down before april 30, you can get a moonlight pass for 299.

as for me, i'll be at moonlight next year after two years of big sky. i'll also be getting an AT setup, and hopefully a big sky pass through patrolling or bridger pass through coaching. if you've got the cash to blow, i'd seriously suggest a moonlight+big sky pass. the amount of terrain is unreal.

This is all good advice. I totally forgot about Moonlights pass deal for next year, but thats insane. Moonlight has an awesome variety of terrain, and literally no one there. I skied there the Saturday of Easter weekend and we were still getting freshies in blatant spots (not secret hidden pockets) at 3:30 pm. I could see getting a little bored there over time though, as it is significantly smaller than Big Sky.


And obviously Big Sky didnt get no snow. I had a bunch of good pow days. But comparatively speaking this year was not as impressive.





As Sam said, all 3 are incredible in their own aspects, it all depends on skiing preference, and what you are looking for in a mountain.

The only thing putting me off from getting a big sky pass is that it's so far away. It sounds better (especially in combination with the moonlight pass), but driving an hour (or 1.5 by bus) to get there sounds so shitty to me. In my country I can get pretty much anywhere by public transport in about an hour and just thinking big sky is 'around the corner' and still having to drive an hour is bleeeh.
Seems like most MSU go'ers go to Big Sky.

Moonlight Basin sounds really sick - like a hidden gem almost. No people, sick terrain! How much better can it get. The only downside is I wouldn't be able to work on my goggle-tan, haha...

I wouldnt be so sure, seems to me that most go to bridger. I had a pass to Big Sky this year, but after the couple of season best days i had at bridger, im not so sure thats where ill be skiing next year. The ability to ski on weekdays and the ridge/schlasmans lift make the terrain way better than big sky IMO. The a-z/s at big sky are cool, but a decently long hike for how short of a chute you actually get. Other than the a-z/s big skys terrain is fairly open, and it just seemed to me it was alot less challenging.

I'll be at MSU next year and i've skied all three resorts. its a hard choice which one to get but I would get the season pass to bridger bowl because it is right there. you can still take days up at big sky

There has been a lot of good info throughout this thread; I just have a couple things to add:

I have been living in Bozeman for 5 years. I've had 3 passes to Big Sky, and 2 passes to Bridger. Every year has been awesome. Both mountains are really fun. Perhaps my best year was last year at Bridger.

For those who are incoming freshman: When I was a freshman, most of the kids in the dorms had Bridger passes. Maybe like a 80/20 split. It seems like it is good to have a Bridger pass for a year, meet some kids you like to ski with, then maybe venture off to Big Sky in the future if you are unhappy with Bridger.

I would stray away from Moonlight unless you combine it with a Big Sky pass.

If people are incoming freshman who don't know many people coming here, I would suggest Bridger. Also, if you are an incoming freshman, Bridger has discounted prices if you are under 18, so look into that to save some money.

You really can't lose. I know it's a tough decision, but there is no bad answer between the two.

moonlight college pass is only 300 dollars till the 30th of this month....

Bridger is dope, i had a pass there this season (sorta), and had alot of fun BUT if you ever want to do any park skiing they have a prettible lame park, and moonlights is quite noice.

I've lived in Big Sky for 3 years and have had passes to Big Sky and Moonlight the past two years and Moonlight is where its at. Headwaters are gnarly, steep, deep, and tons of drops. The park over there is awesome, way better jumps than Big Sky and way more rail options. It's rare to have to wait more than 2 chairs for Six Shooter during the week and on most weekends for that matter. Lone Tree is a sick lift, you can talk a short hike up to Horseshoe Bowl or just ride tree runs all the way to the bottom of the mountain. And if you combine with BS pass, you can ski the North Summit Snowfield which is a ridiculously long run, you start at the peak (11,166) and end up at the bottom of Sixer (7000)! The run itself is awesome, you start in a huge open snowfield then traverse and shimmy around some rocks then have like 5 chutes to choose from. Big Sky is awesome of course too, park was pretty fun this year and the Southside of Lone Peak is almost always good. It gets so windloaded sometimes its awesome. And about lines on the tram, just wait to no visibility day and there wont be a line. Then you end up above Sheddy and Dakota lifts which are super fun and don't have lines except on busy weekends and holidays. BS also has Andesite if it is busy. Some many tight trees and drops everywhere.

Yeah. Its 40 bucks for a 20 round trip pass. Plus it comes with 3 bonus trips. So yeah buck 75 a day hahaha.

Really don't think you can go wrong. Ridge and Slushman's is great at Bridger and Big sky can be pretty sick. Didn't really like the vibe at moonlight but I have only spent one day there. My shoes got stolen and the day i went there was no snow and it was icy and windy.

Naw, get a Bridger Pass, you will regret taking that hour drive everyday, even if you aren't driving. Also most likely all your friends will go to Bridger more often.

BB ups their price after like early September or sometime around then. They don't really do anything fancy with their pass sales, there's such a high demand for them. Just make sure you don't wait too long in the fall or you'll pay another 200$ or something like that
