dude is so amped on skiing and has great articles(not only on ns).  i've been following him for many many years now and he always has some pretty sweet shit to say.  In his post about oldschool newschool(ned to learn though) he said skiing then was free spirited and they did way more drugs and partying, well i just gotta get it out their that because our top pros don't all do drugs and party i think its still a pretty large part of the newschool era and influences our athletes.  LEGALIZE IT.  that's all..one love.

EPIC thread. I guess I over-glorified the drugs and drinking huh?

TRUE STORY - at IF3 this year, we had Cali P rehearsing in the office on the day before the festival. Cool stuff.

Eric Iberg came over to hang out, and sat across from me in our lounge area. He looked me in the eyes and said "I have something for you."

He handed me the top DVD off of a stack of burned DVDs, and said "You have to watch this."

"What is it?" I questioned... the DVD had "THE BEST SKI MOVIE EVER" written in marker on top of it.

"This movie was given to me by Glen Plake. I saw him a few weeks ago, and he simply passed this to me and told me to show it to as many people as I possibly could. It would make things make more sense."

Anyways I did my best to organize a movie screening at the office as an afterparty the next night.... sadly only about 5 people showed up. BUT DUDE.... this made everything make more sense.

It was an early '70s movie made about a few of the top pros at the time. They ripped bumps, slayed aerials and blasted acro like fucking rockstars. They toured the world, won tonnes of money, had tonnes of sponsors, drove fancy cars, banged hot chicks... and partied like crazy.

Hell there's one scene where there's like 3 or 4 of them in a hot tub with a couple of naked girls (tits flying around everywhere) and one of the guys says something like this:

"Man... I won ANOTHER corvette yesterday. Think I could trade it? How much cocaine do you think we could get for a corvette?"

It blew my fucking mind. I mean here I am, looking at dudes that are older than my dad (well not at that time but would be now) who are Classic freestyle bumps and full-double-full-full athletes... who I'm supposed to think are mega lame...

But they're wasted in a hot tub with naked chicks trading in corvettes they won for cocaine. I'm not trying to say drugs are cool... but I'm trying to give perspective.

I mean can you imagine what people would say if there was a ski movie today where there was naked tits in multiple shots?

Thats where its important to realize that we aren't totally groundbreaking here... only thing that is new is that we grab our skis and slide sideways on metal... the attitude has been done before and WAY gnarlier than we do it.

You know it would be cool to dust off the old call book and give some of these guys an interview. Let them tell their story of "back in the day".

We can feature a yellow 1080 ski in the b/s/t?

A Global NS get together, every mountain: One Love? Everyone reports back and someone drafts up a front story?

The oldschool vid you guys are talking about as a monthly feature.

Some ideas, I am willing to work with people to get it done. It will be fun!

Holy shit, they are talking about the bust and burn at sunday river. The duel Pepsi was also a classic comp at st sauveur. Its a little like the us open. That forum brings me back.

Im stoked to see the vid. I hope the guy gets as excited as we are.

This thread turned out awesome.

Here's the thing. Regulatory bodies kill the party, free spirit vibe of any sport. They do allow a sport to get a ton of exposure, and legitimacy for big money advertisers, but they kill the free spirit. Regulation dictates rules on who wins an event. With clearly defined rules, people train to do the absolute best within that set of rules. You've got a ton of people training, and pushing each other to do well within a set of rules. And boy, do they push each other. We've seen fucking crazy things happen to the comp scene in the past few years. You can't win comps without training today. I know that's hard to hear, but top level comp pros spend all year, traveling to just lap pipe and park. You can't afford to be hungover, showing up at the training pipe mid afternoon when your competition is out there dialing in new tricks. You can't really win contests like that anymore. It's becoming a lot less possible to do that all the time.

this big time. Its not that the old guys suck, we just dont have the free time a kid has...now with skiing programs in schools. Kids ski everyday now!

I would love a feedback from admin on ski history month, could we get it done?

easy solution then, have drinking be required the night before all events. and if youre caught training you get shot with a paintball gun.. only allowed to chase girls and play videogames the week before the event
