They are doing "soul grinds" on skis basically an attachment on the side of their skis that lets them do this

I saw that guy at the canyons today with those, they look fucking stupid IMO. Its basically like a plastic shelf you mount to your ski, then mount the binding to, so your boot is about 3-4 inches above the ski. Saw that kid in the video and some other kid in the park and they looked sketchy as hell on those things, just like in the video.

either this guy sucks at rails (and perhaps turning and stopping) or these plates make you lose all edge control.

Memo: if you want to advertise these properly, get someone to ski on them that actually knows what they are doing in the park.

Rossignol POW AIRS!!!

The first of its kind. Designed with a built in grind plate underfoot for the true terrain park star. Enables riders to do rail slides and other new school tricks that have never been performed on skis until now. INTEGRAL DUALTEC Two technologies integrated into one structure. The bottom half of the ski is a traditional construction with short, thick 90º sidewalls to give the ski a solid edge grip. I'm guessing it's just the guy, since it looks like the plates are just on top of the ski and don't touch the ground.

This could be awesome for the progression of skiing. I don't know about soul grinds catching on but maybe it means that 50/50's on handrails will be a very real possibility. Could definitely help the level of urban progress.

What tricks are you talking about? Idt many skiing tricks can really relate except we both stand forward. Im all for pushing skiing and progressing, but not like this. stick with the simple ski

Now with these plates, you can do; Makio, Soul, Acid, Fish, Sweatstance, Mizou and a variety of others. Skiing needs progression on rails, this seems fitting in my opinion.

I love rollerblading, but I dont think this is a good direction for skiing. Skis are way to big and awkward for all the tech rollerblade grinds. The length also makes for other good things like presses, grabs, and one foots all things that have barely been delved into if you are concerned with rail progression.

haha i know the guy in the vids. He was the first person to land double backflip on skates. Really chill.

It's just the plates that make him look a little out of control. being 3-4 inches above your ski, as well as having extra weight and limited edging really affects skiability.
It's sick, but I honestly don't think it will get big in skiing.
