Would you be disappointed with no triples at JOSS?
As long as there's no triple wackflips/triple wackflips to switch. Even a straightforward triple back would be better.
although I would be disappointed if they all ended up looking like shit as well. In fact, I wouldn't even mind people threw a couple that looked like shit, so long as they didn't podium with it.
i wanna see a true tiple cork, a double rodeo 1400+, a dub bio, a laid out triple frontflip from dumont, a dub cork 720., a lazyboy "cork"180 and zero spin...
Somebody will do one... As long as it's not a triple whack I'll be so stoked. As said before a triple back would be way cooler. Hopefully Russ lands his trip 16 he tried in The Way I See it
this.... when i watched the way i see it. the triple cork he almost did looked ssooo dope.
id rather see some dope ass rodeos like ive never seen a rodeo 14 and i think that would be awesome. or even doubles with like a double tail to double japan grab would be sick. could be a little unrealistic though
Fuck ya I want to see triples. Who doesn't want to watch prgression in skiing? Obviously I don't want them to be ugle but if someone throws a sick triple cork or a real triple flat then I am all for it!
I would also love to see some smooth tricks but triples are progression for now and seeing them will be awesome. Underflips need to make a comeback for sure though.
I've always wondered why skiers are incapable of feeling that pushing style is also a form of progression. I mean honestly... I think the issue is that we can't get away from our deep-rooted feeling that we respect "Harder".
I mean how different REALLY is what old aerials was doing?
Our jumps are getting kickier, style more uniform, and difficulty is ever scored WAY higher than style. Sure a double can be more stylish than another double... but many of them the skier is just balled up and rotating like a madman.
I mean take that aerials video, put more gangsta rap behind it, make their clothes baggy and have them tuck up into balls instead of be pencils... and blammo, you've got most ski contests these days.
Again - if people want to go for triples... quads... whatever I'm into it for sure. However, I'd just love to see more progression in contests of style.
Perhaps JOI is actually a good contest for that, and I'm just wrapping another issue into this conversation... but I feel like its worth saying.
I am not saying that progression in terms of style should be ignored I am just saying that at this point in time that is not being focused on as much as technicality.
Also I feel like it is much harder to progress style than it is technicality just because you can always do a bigger spin or one more flip but who is to decide what "style" progression is. Just because style is based so much on an individual basis.
For example I totally appreciate and respect how Henrik and Phil are pushing that aspect of the sport but to be honest I do not really like seeing them ski and they are considered to be two people progressing "style" right now.
I really want to see some new dubs. Rodeo 5 to misty 5 type things. Where they are keeping momentum but changing tilt. I think it would be a lot harder than doing triples, and it could look sick.
a true triple cork would be sick, like that or or russ's. i think a switch triple like sammys would be cool too. true triple flat would be baller, no offense to bobby but his was really wackflippy
Pretty disappointed, and idk why most people are raving on the videos of people just doing a dub 12 with a mute grab as their banger trick, it's like your asking for it to happen.
Fair enough - and actually I'll also admit that if a contest was all 180s and 540s all day it might get boring too.
Style definitely is more of an art form than a skill... though personally thats what I like about it. I like that instead of pushing another rotation, they push to make the trick ever so much smoother and slower... with some pinache added on top.
I Love dudes like Henrik and Phil - but to each their own for sure.
Now riddle me this:
Anyone who has ever played Amped 2 (snowboarding game for Xbox)interestingly enough they managed to come up with a system that scored style in a video game.
You get extra points for executing the trick slowly and smoothly, sudden jerky movements take away from your score.
I've always wondered how the hell a bunch of game developers manage to come up with a mathematical system to judge style that scores slow rotation high... yet we've never been able to do it with the wisdom of all the skiers in the world.
Yes I totally agree about style being more of an art form then raw talent. You cannot teach someone style but you can teach them dub 12s no problem.
My favourite style in skiing is Blake Nyman's and he has been pushing the style aspect of the sport for a long time now but has not been recognized for it as much as others.
