Santa Clara University

Does anybody here go to Santa Clara? I got in, and I'm interested in it for sure. Although there is no ski team or club that I can find, I would potentially be interested in starting one with a friend who's also going to Santa Clara, as it's within driving range of Tahoe... It's a beautiful school, campus, and has a pretty solid business school that I was accepted into.

If anyone goes to Santa Clara, is considering it for next year, or who knows a lot about it, please post in this thread or PM me!

two of my best friends go to santa clara. that being said, coming from colorado the skiing is a rarity. from what they say and what i have experienced (visited the campus) it is a pretty sweet school. the campus is sweet and you cant beat wearing shorts and flip flops year round. but it is a small school and you do not get the same experience as a big university. the only thing i would warn you against is the school schedule. santa clara is on the quarter system (fall= quarter 1, winter= quarter 2, spring=quarter 3, summer=quarter4) so the schedule doesnt overlap as much with bigger universities. this can be a problem because they were on summer break a whole month after i started and will be in school well into june, and most schools get out in early/mid may. but that is a personal preference. if you can afford it you should take the opportunity and go. good luck on your decision, no matter where you go it will be awesome.

Thanks a lot man! Solid advice there.

I'm well aware skiing isn't going to be as common as it is now for me, or if I had applied to a bunch of Colorado/Utah schools... But the school I go to is the first priority, skiing comes next. So given that I at least have the option to ski every couple of weeks at Tahoe, that's not a HUGE deal.

And I definitely understand about the quarter system. Personally, I like semesters better too, but can definitely deal with anything.

Anyone else??

I just graduated from there.  It was OK at best, especially for a skier.
There is a tiny skiing community. There is a club that rents a cabin in tahoe.  However, for the most part there is no one to really push you when you're riding.  Also, Santa Clara is full of bros. It was alot to handle. 
However, the quarter system is rad.  When I went there, I took summer school and took winters off to go home to Crested Butte.  Or you could take tuesday thursday classes and ski 4 day weekends.

I went to a Jesuit high school and a bunch of kids went to Santa Clara. If you think you'll be okay going to a smaller school then I would go for it. The location is great, the academics are top notch, there's a lot of stuff to do near by. Personally, I go to a bigger school (about 15k undergrads). I will never run of out people to meet which is something I like and would not get at Santa Clara. Its just personal preference.

Ok cool. That sounds kinda like what I expected.

Is this a cabin that I, hypothetically, could go to every weekend? Like does the school/club/someone own it? Or is just a rent every once in a while sort of deal...

you'd pay a fixed amount, probably 175-200 to be able to go whenever you want.  Its not a bad deal and pretty fun.  Expect to sleep on the floor as it always is crowded. what major are you going for

For sure. Is it through some sort of ski club? I couldn't find any info on one... And I was admitted to the business school, and am in the process of determining a specific major, whenever I may end up.

Hey when i visited (i dont go there) the tour guide said there was a ski club. i think you pay a flat fee to be in it and theres a house at Tahoe that Santa Clara owns. they said people go up on weekends and breaks. If anyone can tell me more about this that would be great cuz the tour guide only touched on it and i dont really know the details. It sounds cool though.

Too lazy to look this up right now, but Southern cal has SCCSC which is the college ski/snowboard conference. I know that northern cal has the same equivalent because we competed against them. But... if your school doesn't have a team already, you are allowed to attach on to one of the near by teams and compete with them since it is pretty much unaffordable unless you have more than 20 people the first year.

But it is really really fun. N. Cal goes to tahoe pretty much every weekend then competes against S. Cal in Mammoth sometime in April. Then after that is nationals which last I heard was in Sunday River.

Being from LA and 4.5 hours away from Mammoth... Most of the team got in around 20+ days at Mammoth and Mammoth is farther than Tahoe is from the bay area. You can probably expect about 40 days from the season which is entirely adequate for a college student. that and if I remember correctly, school gets out in May for you... So you still have a month and a half to ski considering a few resorts stay open through june.

Thanks. I appreciate the help! I'm pretty sure santa clara doesn't have a ski team though. I've researched it a lot, and have found literally nothing other than what's been mentioned in this thread. And Sierra_Steeze, that's probably true! Haha
