Can you become perma-fried if you take LSD too much? Is there a limit to how many times you should take it? One of my buddies is starting to take it pretty excessively (twice a week) and I'm curious/worried if anyone else is starting to notice a change in there friends, and what kind of change.
There doesn't seem to be a set limit to the amount of LSD an individual can take, physically or psychologically. "Acid casualties" from the 60s and 70s do seem to suggest that repeated chronic use of LSD can have long term effects on your brain and your mental well being. At the same time, however, practitioners like Timothy Leary took LSD over one thousand times in their lifetime with no apparent long term physiological damage?
Perhaps what is important is less how much you take, but more how you take it. People like Leary were very careful about set and setting when taking LSD.

I'm just curious what this will do to my friend in the long run, someone fill me in with experience.

There are many different factors to look at. Everybody reacts differently to drugs, there is no one size fits.

The biggest thing other than his brain is would be dosage. There's a difference between taking a few hits of L on the regular and taking a huge amount of L on the regular. This is all regarding is actually being LSD regardless of crystal and not something like dob or other drugs commonly sold as acid.

To answer the question, yes you can be perma high. I've seen some really spun out people, lots and lots of them, I've seen some empty fucking shells on lot. Then I've seen people who were perma spun but still having a great time and could go about things pretty well, weren't that fucked up.

There are people who could have a bad trip from one or 2 hits and be fucked up for life, there are people that could puddle themselves with 10-20 hits of hi mic'd acid on the regular and be completely fine.

LSD is a great tool but it's a fucking powerful drug. It can send people into the most beautiful places or throw people into a crazy fucked up nightmare. It can help bring on schizophrenia and other mental disorders. It can leave people unstable. IT can have all kinds of different reactions with different people. We're talking a very very powerful psychedelic and the human mind. Some people just can't handle it, some people have some sort of predisposition for certain negative effects.

Just tell him you're worried about him and to be careful. Even if he is doing harm to himself(which he might not be) You probably won't be able to make him stop completely. Hopefully he's good at handling himself and keeping his trips positive for the most part. Sure he is or he probably wouldn't be taking it regularly.


Sometimes it's fun, pour some liquid on your palm, and ride the fucking ride. As long as you come prepared and bring your spacesuit, it can be fucking incredible.

Dosage and setting are def the most important factors. Shitty setting can fuck up even the best trip or throw even the most veteran tripper into a frenzy. Dosage is also huge, when you're talking about feeling a little bit different to having shit dripping in front of you that's a big deal.

I see trails a little bit sometimes. I see the floaters in my eyes really clearly in light. A little bit spun all the time, but it's a real mild trip. Once in a while it comes up a little harder, but I'm used to it and it's now big deal. I only trip on special occasions now, which come up fairly frequently, but still nothing like how I rolled for a few years.

Personal experience, did a lot of LSD in January/February...kinda worried honestly, and I can handle myself mentally very well when I trip. Honestly though I wouldn't worry about personality changes. For me, at least, I tend to be able to relate to people and learn social skills that I can apply to my life after tripping. If he becomes schizophrenic and/or psychotic at random I would worry...or if he starts to complain that he feels like the world is surreal (depersonalization/derealization). Do some research, shit can get bad if he's already preexposed to mental problems.

acid does affect your brain, they call it frying because it is pretty much frying synapses. a small minority of people do it a lot and come out fine, but i'll just say that from my experience, and from watching those around me, too much acid can be a really bad thing.

keep an eye on your friend, he may (or may not) start getting pretty disconnected from reality and that can be pretty damn scary if you don't have someone to help you through it

Personal experience: Tripped on acid Numerous times. It took me a little while to re-gain my self control and accept myself back into the community, in the end though things were completely find. It's all about your OWN mental stability. In all, just have FUN

Ok so these last few posts have kind of turned me off from acid. I've done shrooms once and salvia like four or five times, but I wanted to try acid this summer for the first time. I smoke nearly everyday but I do get like anxiety attacks sometimes when I get too stoned and like trip out sort of. Do you think its a bad idea to try acid then?

Everyone acts differently.
Mushrooms is pretty different from acid.
If you are in the right mind set, and are just calm, you should be fine. Have music, art supplies and calming stuff like that. Just stay calm, and have a good time.
I did some shrooms on saturday (among e, as well as getting drunk). It was my birthday, so I just wanted to party, my mindset wasn't right, and I blacked out by midnight, woke up in my bed naked with stuff scattered all over my floor.
Compared to the other time I did shrooms, very calm mind set.
Works the same with acid, first time I did it, we were just camping, had music, all the calm stuff. Got intense like it's supposed to and I kind of got scared, but I stayed calm. It was my first time on any drug besides smoking weed. The other times have just been like "hey, let'd do some acid, explore town and watch a movie". So we did, stayed calm and had fun.

Point being, stay calm, if you're worried, maybe just wait awhile.

I'm pretty much just more worried about the lasting effects of it. I just don't want a bad trip to change my everyday life. I feel like the only thing that would set off a bad trip for me is thinking i wont come out of my trip. Setting and surroundings will be fine.

A bad trip isnt going to change your everyday life, plus there is always ways to change that bad trip into a good one (change the music, environment around you, people around you). And honestly, if your worried about it than its not a good idea to try, until you've done your research. Acid and mushrooms are two different trips completely. Mushroom trips are more intense in a way, acid is just like laughing and hallucinating while mushrooms is having your mind run 1000 miles per hour, and also not to mention mushrooms are a self concious drug. So, do your research and do not rule it out, tripping on acid is a very fun time and i think that everyone can handle it, dont let an internet website rule out such a fun experience.
And ill tell you right now, i tripped on salvia last night for the first time, it was 80x and let me tell you it was harder than i've ever rolled or tripped on anything. So just have mental stability and you will be fine.. i promise!

yeah salvia is about 10x more intense and uncomfortable than lsd or boomers, which feel natural, while salvia is just.. idk i cant think of a better word than uncomfortable. shitty drug IMO

You're overthinking it. Acid is a lot of fun and I feel connects you to the general vibe of your situation really well. Like if you're in a silent room and you feel the aesthetics around you affect your emotion...that's what you'll get magnified x100 on acid and it's visually manifested in pseudohallucination form. It's hard to explain unless you've experienced it. I call acid the "ADD, younger cousin of shrooms".

From my own experiences and those of the people I know (shroomz only), everyone usually comes out of a bad trip fine. Like I said earlier, its not really the bad trip so much as the dosage you take it with for acid. But you won't be doing like 10 tabs, so..... From what I know you'd probably be fine. Like, you don't need to take a lot of acid to get profound effects and as long as you're smart and know how set and setting work and take the proper preparations in doing it, you'll be fine. Two basic things I'd recommend would be someone to trip sit you, and some kind of safe place. If you live at home.... Do it while your parents are gone for a long weekend or something. Have someone with you, and then explore outside the house or do whatever, if you start getting a little freaked out or start tripping a little hard, you can go inside and watch TV or something. If you're having a bad trip, tell your trip sitter so that they can try to calm you down and set your trip off in a good direction again.

Acid is a beautiful thing if used correctly. I would def urge you to wait to try it till you aren't afraid of it. Trying a small dosage in a good setting and you'd get the minimal effects to where it was impossible to freak out.

Yeah, nothing wrong with a low dose trip. Last time I did mushrooms I just did 1.5 grams and it was a super mellow but fun trip. My peak was really casual, everything was noticably but mildly psychedelic and I wound up having a great night.

Damn thanks for all the responses guys. I don't think I really got across what I was trying to say. I've done a bunch of research on shrooms and acid and I was pretty set on doing it this summer. It's just some of the posts above talkin about people doin it once and having a bad effect on them that turned me off a little.

Oh and to all the haters of salvia, i'll just say don't judge it till you've done it twice. I hated it my first time, but once you get used to the trip and you go with it, it can be such a spiritual experience. it is not a social drug at all tho. You really have to prepare for it

I've done it 2 or 3 times. Not again. Just wasn't a fan. One time I had 60x, packed the whole g ontop of a tiny bit of nug and roasted as much as I could, held it in until I went out. It was alright, I would just rather trip on something else.

You don't really have to prepare for it. The effects don't last very long, if you're in a decent setting with friends you're golden. One of the biggest obstacles in an acid trip is the length. It can be an amazing thing if you're loving every minute of it. If you stagger the dosage so you peak really really hard but you're still riding it after the huge peak, then you sort of peak again but mellower, and then you just float away into reflection. Still riding it, and with a big fucking grin on your face. That can be the best part, even if you enjoyed every minute out of the intensity, you're just winding down, still kind of scambled but theres clarity, still riding the wave but you're grounding out.

If you eat a bunch and it starts to go south, there's no"this will be over in an hour or two and I'll be fine, just gotta make it an hour or 2" You could be hours away from even peaking, which means it's just going to continue getting more and more intense. That's why setting is so crucial. For a while I would only eat larger doses at festivals. With the music raging, I could be really really really spun, absolutely in orbit and be almost completely fine, where as just walking around town on a normal day might have been tooo much. If a trip starts to go south there are so many friendly people everywhere. Just sit down in their easy up, they'll give you a beer, smoke a bowl with you, ask you about things. Get your mind onto some positive thoughts. Walk around with you, get you to meet new people, get a nice crew of positive vibes going and it just bring you back up. After an hour you feel great, thank them, go run off and rage. Boom you just made another bunch of friends.

no, I've actually seen the dude that he's talking about. I think...always the same dude with some sign for a restaurant/company. I haven't talked to him though.

I can definitely see people's brains getting fucked from doing it once, but that's why you gotta be careful if you have a mental disorder or are genetically predisposed to one. After I tripped 7 grams of mushrooms (second time I ever tripped, first time was an eighth of shrooms), I will never think or perceive the world the same way again. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing yet. I'm definitely more open minded and spiritual/religious. After acid, it's more my awareness of "vibes" than the actual thought process that changes. The thoughts I had on acid really fused my view of the secular world with the 'sacred'. I love the changes I've had from acid, makes my life much more aesthetically fulfilling. I could go on for days about how beautiful EVERYTHING is or the paradox of existence...as long as you don't get wrapped up in your head you'll be fine.

I say go for it. I feel like the "bad trip" on acid would be more superficial than a bad trip on shrooms...less affect on the psyche. Never had a true bad trip though, so I can't speak for myself.

I fell like it's easier to have a bad trip on shrooms but think it depends on the person. I think a bad trip on acid is a lot worse than a bad trip on shrooms though. I don't really get that vibe of going out and not coming back on shrooms no matter what your experience. On acid it's not that terribly hard, though unlucky, to spin yourself out into orbit and not fully ground. It changes the way your brain functions, it has real permanent effects from day one. I think for the most part it's beautiful, but like with anything else you can cross the threshold.



Just gotta watch out for yourself and your friends.

Research isn't a comparison to actually experiencing it man. The people that have a bad effect after one trip are the ones that aren't prepared for it physically/mentally, wheither it is the environment they are in, or the people they are in, something set them in a bad trip, they don't just happen. Salvia is more intense for that minute that LSD, its more of a casual laid back trip. just don't push your limits, smoke a couple dutches, get yourself prepared in the place you want to trip, and give it a go!

LSD, or lysergic acid diethlyamide, is a potent man-made hallucinogenic drug, which alters the mood and perceptions of users and causes them to see, hear, and feel things that are not real. Though the initial effects of using the drug usually wear off within 12 hours, LSD can have serious long term effects that may impact users for the rest of their lives.
The effects of LSD use vary depending on the person and the situation. Some users enjoy the experience, but others have "bad trips," which cause fear and paranoia. A person who has previously enjoyed LSD may have a bad trip if they use it again or in a different situation. This means that the more a person uses LSD, the more likely he or she is to have a bad trip at some point.
Though LSD doesn't cause physical addiction, users may continue to seek it out to get the effects of the drug. Some users can become psychologically dependent on LSD, where they feel like the need the drug to function or to handle life, especially if they use it often or over a long period of time.
Long term effects of LSD use can occur in anyone who uses LSD, though heavy users, or those who use the drug over a longer period of time, are more likely to experience long term effects.
LSD is not physically addictive, so users don't need help with physical withdrawal from LSD, but if they are psychologically addicted they will need therapy and a support system to overcome their psychological need or cravings for the drug.
There is no cure for the flashbacks that users may experience after LSD use. Other psychological problems that develop as a result of long-term LSD use, such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, or trouble coping with everyday situations should be evaluated and treated by a doctor or therapist.

That is a load of nans. Yes there are people that eat it every show, almost every day, or just a general bunch. That doesn't mean they are in anyway addicted. I've never seen somebody craving their next trip every day like that. I've seen people struggling harder to smoke their next bowl and weeds barely psychologically addictive.

I have taken LSD a number of times and always enjoyed it. The affects of using LSD while tripping and long term both have a lot to do with what type of person you are. It is a lot like marijuana in that it isn't physically addictive, but it can absolutely rent space in your mind, which can be good or bad.
A lot of people report having "bad-trips" although I have never experienced this and I have taken a wide range of doses from what would be considered half a dose up to 5 doses, and the amount you take has a pretty big impact on the experience. I have probably had experiences that others would consider bad experiences, for example I have definitely felt on edge and been afraid while tripping, but that is just part of an adventure. An adventure isn't that exciting if you weren't afraid at any point.
Visual hallucinations are pretty rare in my experience and in the experience of friends of mine, but closed eye visuals can be common at higher doses and are very cool. It is a much more mental experience than physical one. It's hard to explain it, but the best I can think of is that when you are sober you think of everything in terms of its relation to other things, how it affects your or your friends or its environment, but on acid you think of everything only in relation to itself. That may not make sense....sorry.

Taking it too often can be a big deal, but most people get over it. You develope  a tolerance to LSD very very quickly, so you can't really trip two days in a row, but the tolerance also breaks down pretty quickly. It is the kind of thing that is fun to do 3 to 4 times a year, maybe slightly more up to like once a month.

I can only speak for myself, but I have had positive experiences with it and will certainly do it again at some point. The real problems are encountered when you are mixing acid with other drugs. People can wind up tripping for days when they are mixing hard drugs which is very scary I would imagine. Doing lsd has changed the way I see things in certain ways, and I am glad i have done it. Nothing life changing, but when you are tripping you experience the world differently, and you can still capture that thinking at moments long after you have stopped tripping.

I know a lot of crazy-ass people that do a number of drugs, but you know what? They were weird as shit before. The way someone acts after they have discovered acid (or whatever) is somehow strangely related to the way they were before...

I'm not saying that acid won't have psychological effects if you do it a lot, I'm just pointing out that jumping to ridiculous conclusions doesn't offer your audience any useful information whatsoever.

yep. I was (am?) weird as fuck. definitely felt like I had a different viewpoint of the world even before I tripped in terms of life priorities. now my priorities are totally different again after I've tripped, but in a good way. The trippy mindstate is one of my favorite experiences, ever. I enjoy it more than skiing, but I respect it enough to be cautious.

I tripped 3x LSD in a week, 2 doses each time. then I tripped 3 doses a month later. Tripped 2 doses 2 weeks after that. Haven't touched psychedelics since then. Tripped shrooms sometime between the first time I tripped LSD and my subsequent LSD trips. I think. In any case, I was in the psychedelic word for about 3 months straight (my mind was a little tripped out for a few days after each time). Had a really bad scare of depersonalization disorder a couple weeks ago, and now I'm 100% ok. Also had a ton of bad shit happen in my life the last year as well, which contributed to mental instability. I'm just letting you know how much I needed to even get close to feeling permafried. I cut down my weed intake a lot after that, and I hardly drink in the first place. That's my story. I was stupid about my intake, and I take complete responsibility for that. On the positive end, I am much happier and more confident about myself than I even have been even in the face of a shitstorm about to head my way.

Seriously, you'll be ok and you will enjoy it.

I agree with you're ending. Jumping to conclusions doesn't really help, but acid is a powerful drug.


You can be a normal person, have a fucked up trip your first time, and be forever changed. It really isn't a reflection of who you were/ It can be to some extent, but to another it changes people. I feel it's usually a positive and beautiful change, but not always.

I took some LSD last night at about 12:30. Still feeling a bit spun out, but i managed to get out of bed at 6:20 and make it to first period on time. I guess I'm not complaining.

well, i think it probably cant be too bad for you physically... but on the mental side of things... it can fuck you up long term... but it really depends on the individual and their experience with acid, dosage taken, how many times they have done it, etc.
