Is it possible to gain an accent? Like if I lived in 'Merica for 17 years and moved to Australia would I be able to get an accent? I'm moving to Australia and I really want a fucking accent

I lived in England until I was 13, and I live in Canada now, and have been here for 3 years. People in Canada think I sound English, people in England think I sound Canadian, it's a bit of a weird mix. I think if I stayed here longer I would fully get the Canadian accent though, I have a few buddys who moved here when they were younger than I was and I didn't know they were English until they told me.

i know a lot of people who lose their accents.

it would be super dope to get a australian accent.

you wouldn't naturally develop a full australian accent. a little bit, yes. but since you're over fourteen years old that part of your brain is no longer developing.

Some people do, some people don't. As someone up there said, age is a big factor. Just don't try to get one or you're less likely to. It has to come natural or it won't become a habit.

I had a strong mix of Northern Wisconsin / Canadian accent when I moved to Colorado two years ago. It's gone for the most part but once in a while people will catch me with my long O's in boot or something.
