i broke my thumb last season and i was skiing without poles for a few weeks. it was pretty cool. grabs feel way better when you get a full five fingers on it and it felt like my balance actually improved. and i thought it still looked stylish without poles.

the more you grab with poles the more comfortable you get with it. it's really not that hard to get all 5 of your fingers around the ski when you grab with poles, you just gotta practice. skiing with or without poles is obviously a preference, but the ski industry as a whole shuns the idea. you need poles in all real competitions and you almost never see people in mags or vids without poles. there are people (like griffin cummings) who are fucking sick skiers that ride without poles, but in my opinion and many other people's opinions, skiing without poles just doesn't look right, it kinda ruins the 'skiing' style (snowboarders are the ones who are supposed to not have poles), and it is only justifiable in the park/pipe because you just cannot ski properly without them on regular runs and steeps/bumps/pow, etc

dude, i can ski properly without poles just about fuckin anywhere. As long as you make the motions and keep your weight forward, you will be fine, and yes even in the bumps.

Who cares how good you can ski without poles, it looks retarded, especially if you have short skis. I will admit though that Griffin is sick, but still poles are a necessity. Who the hell cares how good you are anyway, as long as you look good doing it? Thats what skiings all about, image.

to the guy that said he can ski without poles:
you must be a retard. sure you can make your way down the hill without poles, but that doesn't meen you are skiing. i don't wanna say that you have to have 'proper technique' when you ski, but poles are essential to starting turns, transferring weight, keeping you centered down the fall line, etc. you can't ski tough terrain and bumps without poles. if you think you can then you are probably a stupid jackass that just points his skiboards down the hill and bounces to the bottom, thinking you skied it. you ask ANY professional skier, or even andy respectable ski instructor and they will tell you the same thing. skiing stuff like that without poles is like trying to kayak down a river without a paddle.

yea joker is right one day i broke buth my poles and i was at the top of the run I suffered the whole way down,skiing with out poles is really hard, they help a lot when starting turns as well as balance and style. I cant even imagine skiing powder or hucking cliffs without poles

did you even read what i posted. i said that it was personal preference to ski with poles, especially in a park/pipe situation, i was just explaining my thoughts on it, plus the opinions of the majority of the ski industry. i didn't even watch the video, i'm not targeting that kid directly. fuck it's so stupid when i have to explain things like this to you people because you can't read a previous post to understand what is actually going on.

you don't even know me...I didn't say that I skied without poles, I said that I could. And NO, the weight of the poles do not help you keep your weight downhill and initiate turns, your fucking feet and legs and upper body do that. Poles help you pivot for turns in bumps and also give you an area of focus, but truely, with just making the pole planting motions, you can mock a perfect skiing style without poles...don't fuckin tell me you can't...you are lying...anyway

Skiing without poles can not be the same as skiing with poles, maybe you havent done it enough or have any good skiing skills to realize, poles are also very important for your balance. I can see why Joker is getting so frustrated
