I wish everyone would quit using the term DSLR killer, it's dumb. People will sill be using DSLR's to shoot video for some time to come.
I'm excited about this camera, more so than the AF100. If it can produce images similar to the F3, I may have finally found a camera system that I can invest in.
I don't know much about video, but it kinda does seem like Sony did a couple big things right that Panasonic missed the mark on for a system like this, especially the full frame sensor.
I tried to watch that music video, but it was too painful even on mute. haha.
I listened to that fucker talk for 12 minutes only to see that video at the end? That was awful. Not just the singing, but the video in itself. So many soft /ill exposed shots. Not to mention the wholehearted lack of anything mildly creative.
When I said dslr killer, I meant in terms of professionals shooting with 10k worth of dslr equipment for the bigger sensor and interchangeable lenses. Id love to know how you feel about this camera cause I know you want an AF100.
Well professionals with large budgets aren't shooting with dslrs...
And its interesting, im a panasonic fanboy i love their cameras, but the only thing this sony offers is the full frame sensor, possibly worth the extra 1000 bucks but the sony lenses seem meh to me, but i guess with an af100 id use different lenses anyway. we'll see how it progresses, im almost at the point where im gonna wait for the p2 version of the af100.
People who have used DSLRs include Ron Howard, George Lucas, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, Hughes Brothers, Rodney Charters, Sam Nicholson , Jeff Jur (Flashforward ABC) Shane Hurlburt (Terminator 4), and now Matthew Libatique.
As what, their C or D camera? I could believe that. Of course a high budget might toss 5-10 gs on a dslr setup when they have millions to work with haha.
House filmed their last season finale entirely on the 5D.
I am also intrigued by this camera. The full frame sensor is amazing, and if it offers legit 1080p60p (with sound) then that would be a bonus too. as far as i know, the af100 only offers 1080p60p if you overcrank over a 30p or 24p frame rate.
but i'm a huge panasonic fanboy as well, i have never really liked the images that sony cameras produce..i really wish Level 1 wouldn't use them so much
i actually just watched that video and it looks pretty sweet, but it seems like a bunch of gimick features vs actual better features. its definitely something to consider over the af100.
yea i will definitely be considering it too, but i think it may be a bit out of my price range.. the af100 isn't a whole lot more expensive than what i would get for selling my hvx
the more and more i read about this camera the more and more excited i get for it for some reason. if a solid eos to emount adapter comes out i might be sold...
if you have a good job, i coach swimming and im making 1000 for the whole summer... i have to get a second job to pay for COC and have money for college
this is the complete truth, I'm a little surprised that you have to pay 6 grand to get something that shoots 1080 at 60 fps. I'm guessing its because this has interchangeable lenses but i don't know much on the subject so
Phillip Bloom's compairison between the FS100, AF101, and F3. Watch the second video if you want to hear the pros/cons of each, and the first for images. Personally I think the fs100 rules.
I KNOW! if only it had nd filters. not only is it a thousand dollars more but I also have to fork out a tonne of money for filters. im going more and more towards the sony now though but the total kit will probably cost more.
It's a sensitive camera too (0db gain = iso 800) so it would be nice to see those in there, but its 1.5x crop factor makes it much more pleasing to me than an AF100
gain is a video camera equivalent to iso sensitivity rating. Its lowest gain setting (0db gain) is equal to iso 800. So it doesnt have iso 100, 200, or 400, it starts at 800 and goes up from there.
Really? I glad they're finally making cameras that aren't shaped like thermos bottles. Cube-shape is the most practical in my opinion...
This is probably the first consumer Sony camera that I've actually been excited about. 4:2:2 @ 10-bit recording with s35 sensor is exactly what I've been waiting for all these years. And the cosmetic design is marvelous. I'm glad they're making cameras without those stupid top and side handles built in.
Also, there is no way this can be a "DSLR killer" since it is four times the price of a 7D.
I mean it doesn't look very pleasing to the eye, but yes, it is extremely practical shape wise, will be a phenominal camera, and I agree with you. But when you have to carry a camera around I really, really do like the top handles. No, they are not the greatest to look at or have there when you don't need them, but overall, they are great to have there at the end of the day IMO.
and this camera has one you can remove, I like that. Someone will probably design a nicer looking one that utilizes the two 1/4" 20 screw holes located behind the hot shoe.
