Have any of you ever broken camera gear?

Hey guys, I was just curious if any of you filmers or photographers have ever broken any camera gear how much did it cost to replace? how did you break it? what did you break?
etc.

I broke my lcd on my fx-1000 because my camera bag was not padded enough. I fell on my side and since the lcd on the fx-1000 is in a weird place it smashed.
that was 400$ down the drain :(

Yeahhh its sucks had to get my nikon 17-35mm repaired from a motocross rider spraying sand and water all over me

Dropped my 24-105 and warped the mount. Only cost $85 to replace the mount.

Dropped my manfrotto tripod and this piece that holds the quick release in place snapped off. Weirdest thing/place to have something snap especially since it only fell on it's side. Piece of shit. My head is now basically useless. I can still use it but it's sketchy.

Cracked my Sigma fisheye, no idea how.

Locked up my Hasselblad, the body is still out being serviced. No idea why it happened.

did the same thing to mine, and caught an edge riding with my glidecam and the battery grip broke

in nyc this late summer my (back then) brand new t2i, with 17-40 canon lens on it, fell out out my bag and hit solid pavement from about 4 feet up.

luckily i had a uv filter on it. the filter shattered and kinda jammed itself in the threads on the lens, but the guys at bandhphoto in nyc helped me out. i was scared

I used to have a Nikon d50. Somebody picked up my pack at the end of a day and threw it in the back of their car, then threw a couple pair of skis on top. The command dial doesn't work now, so it only works on full auto. At least I had already replaced it.

-Ripped the bottom out of my old Fx1
-Snapped the top plate of a new $800 fluid head a week after I got it
-Trashed a pair of gitzo legs in a matter of months, they are built like a tank, don't know how I did that.
-Blew out a nice little 7 inch hd monitor

broke 2 tripods while shooting this winter because it was so cold out they just shattered when touched.
broke a canon hv20 that was mounted to the hood of my car when the mount lost suction and the camera rolled off to pavement.

Luckily i havent had any of these types of issues yet. I did however leave my manfrotto 501hdv tripod in my truck one night while it was -40 and the little level thing got ruined after freezing then thawing out and now its just one big bubble inside but that really isnt much of an issue. Actually i bent my buddies kit 18-55 lens while eating shit skiing with it and had to give him my fisheye for my video camera in return. It was good tho because we ended up using his cam all season anyways.

Damn iPhone, my body was fine it didn't even have a scratch on it. Took my lens in and they sent it in to Nikon and I got it on warranty somehow so it didn't cost a thing. I didn't really care it's not a good lens anyways aha

Hit some ice on the top of the super pipe, fell down 20+ feet onto my face and sony fx7.  Passed out, to later waking up and having kids come up to me that found little parts.
Duct taped the whole camera together, works like a charm.

i broke off a record button/dial that turned on the camera on my old camera, shit cost like 150 sucks.

First week with my t2i, I'm walking around with it around my neck and a tripod in hand. The camera bounces off my chest and swings into the tripod head, cracking the lcd glass. I got the warranty so I'l send it back when i get the chance

Walking with my camera on my tripod in the snow, tripped and fell and smashed my kit lens, granted it was only the kit lens that broke, but if anyone is in college, invest in dorm insurance, I paid $100 and I have $4000 in coverage and i have accidental forgiveness and it doesnt matter where the accident happened. I sent the lens into canon and got a quote, sent the quote to the insurance company and got the check in the mail and now I get to to upgrade my lens.

to bad shes on a 25000 dollar salary to keep a roof over her and my head and cannot afford to buy me camera shit.

-shit got into my 16-85... it was basically fucked already.
sent me a brand new one free/claim
-broke my light stand... they are shit anyway
-and broke my go pro... sent me a new one free... but took them all winter to "figure out what was wrong" and i still dont have a case. fml
but other then that, everything is in great shape :D

then why in that one edit description that you have did it say you where getting one for christmas? you mean getting 300$ towards one for christmas? Im not hating. Just curious as to how that worked out. I pay for a lot of my camera shit too but my parents do support me if they see what im doing is beneficial to something in my future/ not a claim.

It really actually doesnt matter about how you managed to get your 60d (whether your mom bought it or you paid for it) but that you have it and you make sick edits and film really well with it and use it to its potential unlike sooooo many people. I assume you work a lot then to pay for all of your equipment. Oh and also one time one of the rubber bands snapped on my rode video mic, so i went and got another one from the bag they give of extra ones.

Kind of a long story. ill shorten it.

I set up a deal with the guy at the local photo store cause I did not have enough money to buy it straight up.

So he let me pay it as it comes and my mom helped me out and paid 300$ I still owe like 40$.

that's how I acquired it.

I've broken a few filters, an old tripod, and then the screw on another r]tripod snapped in half when my body was on it. Getting the screw out of my camera when it didn't have a head was terrible.

I personally haven't broken anything myself.

1 lightstand was hit by a snowboarder on a quarterpipe and he just rode away like he didn't do it.

1 lightstand had a knob broken off by UPS but they overpayed me so its cool

1 lightstand was hit and broken by Andy Parry while shooting for 3.3 and I have yet to replace it.

And Darcy Bacha borrowed my tripod this summer for a long exposure skate shot and one of the outtakes involves a skateboard denting one of the legs but I still use it because it doesn't make sense to buy a new one for how little I use it.

Luckily I haven't broken my camera, lenses, or strobes even while falling while skiing with them.

Bump, Today I almost fucked my 60d, I was balancing my glidecam and I guess it wasent clicked in right and it slid right off, So disappointing, my glide cam baseplate bent a little

borrowing a 4/3 nikon lens adapter for my gh1 I managed to get it stuck in the body... the kid needed an adapter the next day for a shoot so I had to toss him $90 to buy a new one, then had to pay a shop $40 to check out my cam then another 80 to take the body apart and get the lens adapter out. that was all in the middle of filming a short for a class, it fuckin sucked. had to use a buddys handycam instead, it was a bummer!

sorry but your mom is not on a 25k salary homie.

my mom makes around 90k a year and she works 2 days a week
my dad makes well over 120k a year and he works 9hrs a day everyday of the week running two businesses.

they are extremely supportive as are a bunch of other members in my family and being an only child i guess helps too but its not a "can i have this?" -"sure" type of conversation. grades, attitude, controlling my own money spending habits - in the end it all is cohesive in the way I get my gear. since I'm making money off what I do with it, it's only right that for a gift I do get $$$ for the gear or in fact a piece of equipment itself.

umm i broke your tripod the night i got it hahahaha the things that connect the legs together, i was trying to flatten them out but one would go and i used a little bit to much force and it snapped where it is connected to one of the legs. there was a screw missing and i think that was why it snapped cause off the force was on one little part... but no worries nothing a little super glue and a new screw couldn't fix! i was freaking out for a bit tho

Dropped a UV filter once, it exploded. Pretty cool actually. looked like there was a spider web on it.

My ex of sorts pounced on me at the aquarium, and I dropped a macro filter. It didn't break, but that relationship thing ended pretty quick.
