And this is just retarded. You guarantee a spill? Are you planning on blowing up the mainline? Seriously, the notion that "sometime in the near future" our energy reserves will be depleted is a) vague, b) wrong and c) irrelevant even if not for a) and b). Newsflash people:
Welcome to Canada. We are nothing, absolutely nothing, without our resources.
Energy is the most important part of our national economy and the single most important thing in this country. If you want to hamstring that you are inherently acting against our national interests. Realistically this is a political divide - all non-Conservative parties know they don't stand a chance in hell of winning the votes of anyone in Alberta, so why not use the oil sands as a whipping boy? Hmmmm, maybe because it is the engine that drives this entire nation?
Enbridge is, at its heart, a good project. Pipelines in general are basically never a negative force on a macro level - depending on capacity they are often neutral. The question is only how to manage the project. And these videos and reports people post up, you would not believe the groups that have vested interests in these things and would saw their own arms off to stop them. There is a process for that. It is called the National Energy Board licensing procedure. The sheer volume of detail that goes into an environmental screening report prior to approval by the NEB would boggle your mind. Everything down to the line's impact on specific species of frogs is taken into account, it's insane. Want to be heard before the NEB and air your grievances? The requirement is basically that you have a pulse. Nonetheless, the people who don't get what they want (and there are ALWAYS people who don't get what they want) will engineer these publicity campaigns to prey on the minds of people who don't know how regulatory approvals work. It's unbelievable how worked up people can get over an issue without so much as a basic understanding of what they're talking about.
