I really really want to like it but I just cant. Its way too syrupy and sweet. I have JB Black, Makers Mark, and Jefferson reserve in my bar right now but its just not happening. Am I missing something? Is there something better out there that I should be trying?

I don't really like that many scotches either, pretty much just gold label, so maybe I'm just not a whiskey boy, back to my brandies I guess.

Anyway, I searched, there was nothing. So heres a thread for you bourbon lovers. Post your favorite.

There are certain drinks that you definitely have to develop a taste for, and don't like right away. My dad basically forced me to start drinking Jack Daniels like him when I turned 21. I used to always mix it with a splash of coke, but my dad called me a wuss for doing that. I now drink it straight, on the rocks. It wasn't a taste that I immediately enjoyed, but I developed a taste for it.

No I bought them because I was trying to like them. Turns out I don't. Oh well, bourbon is relatively cheap. Plus it still has alcohol so its not a complete waste. Still gets me drunk.

or you could skip that whole taste developing period and drink something you actually like. i dont need to enjoy a glass of straight bourbon on the rocks to feel manly or something, thats just my opinion anyways

jd is garbage, but i've definitely gotten the taste for whiskey. it definitely takes time getting used to, but once you get there its rockin. st. paddie's was tullamore dew straight all night.

No one really loves any alcohol the first time they drink it. It's like any food really your pallet changes. I eat things now that I would have never eaten when I was younger, just like I drink things now that I would have never been able to hold down when I first started drinking.

ya, tru, i understand where you're coming from. come to think of it, i actually only started listening to classic rock because my dad would tell me i was an idiot whenever i said i didnt like it ahaha, and now its one of my favorite types of music

tru tru. with hard liquor though, for me anyways, i was able to swig that shit straight out of the bottle and kill a whole 26er to my face when i was younger. as i got older and drank too much quite a few times, my tolerance and taste for hard liquor has gone down at an exponential rate, where now i cant even take a swig of straight liquor without almost spitting it out ahaha

ya i actually liked almost everything the first time i tried them. my parents used to let me drink a bit of wine and beer since i was like 12 though so that might have something to do with it

I thought of a better answer to this.

I want to know if there is something to it. I always remembered seeing my father drink brandy and if I hadn't have really wanted to like it. I never would have made it past the first couple of shit bottles I bought. I've since learned that you can't really spend less than 70 if you want something thats good to drink. If I hadn't have "wanted to like it" so much I never would have kept moving up the chain and never would have discovered what is now my favorite drink. I'm just wondering if maybe I'm drinking the wrong bourbons.

meh - it's nothing to get excited about. some of my ghetto boys used to always order shots of "hendo" when we were out at the bar, so I've had it more times than I'd like to admit, but I personally wouldn't ever order it.

then again, I'm more of a vodka or rum drinker anyway.

Its actually pretty good, I enjoy it. I think its the smaller bottle than that but I pick it up at my LCBO for 65$/bottle. Comes in a pretty wicked box too, so you know its good... haha

Ugh hennesy VS is utterly toxic. You can't drink anything less than XO from any of the big 4. (only exception MIGHT be Remy VSOP, and only if you're already buzzed).
