K2 silencer vs. Line mastermind

Hey NS, I was wondering what ski would be a better fit for me. I ski the east coast sunapee, and mount snow I ski about 85% park 15% groomers/trees really only when there is pow. When in the park I ski about 75% rails 25% jumps nothing over 40 feet. Thanks NS for your help Oh yeah also what size should I get I'm 5'6 155lbs

Dont get silencers....My friend had them shall we start? In one ski the edge ripped out at the the tail. Lots of edge cracks but whatever. The last time i saw those skis we were hiking rails and all the sudden his edge underfoot is gone along with the base and even some of the core.

2nd this.

My friend had Silencers, and they were the worst skis ever made. They were incredibly slow, the bases were not durable at all, they were heavy and built poorly. Spend a bit more money and look into Armada. I am on my second pair of park skis from armada and I do not have one complaint. You should know though, I mean, your icon is Armada....

bottom line: just dont buy silencers. they suck.

masterminds are the way to go! got my pair this summer and they were a great price for what u can do with them. im east coast too (cranmore & bretton woods & waterville) and these skis stand up to all the "snow" and such out here. really forgiving on jumps and basically a fun overall to play with in the park. and in the trees i think its the best twin tip i could have

get some k2s as crappy as they feel under foot they hold up. As for size, it is up to you. Im 5'10'' and i ski on a 183, and I only weigh 150. If you ski fast go long. i'd say you would be fine on up to a 174.

masterminds are amazingly sick! here so light and playful! cheap, and will still hold up up on jumps larger then 50ft. get em!!!

I don't think I'll grow anymore but I am looking to hit like 50ft jumps next season and I will be mounting them center

line tries to make themselves out to be a "core" ski company. Like a company like on3p moment surface or bluehouse that is owned by skiers and run by skiers. When really line is just owned by k2 skis which is owned by an even larger company, whom the owners of which have probably never skiied a day in their life. Now ive got nothing against k2 but with both k2 and line you get what you pay for, with k2 you pay more and get higher quality skis that will last. with line they claim to be a sick company that makes low cost skis for the average park rat who cant afford much, however what you get is a low quality ski that might last half a season of hard riding.

on3p, moment, surface, bluehouse = core copmpanys owned by skiers run by skiers, who know what kind of abuse park skis take and dont sacrifice quality for a lower cost

What do you know? Jason started one of the best companys in my opinion. It started out just like on3p in a garage. It wasnt even till a year or so ago that k2 bought out line. Get over it i remember looking at a page in freeskier about 4-5 years ago showing all these big corporations owning about every single ski brand. I was a bit bummed myself when line was bought out. Line has always had in my opinion some of the best riders that all had their own style(even since they started). K2 and Line are made in the same factory now so i dont know why k2 would be so much better. Line starts trends like no tomorrow not only with their ski designs but look at all the companys and crews putting out webisodes now. A lot of companys try and be like line but it doesnt work.

You cant stay "core" forever. Ski companys are a business not a little fun side project on which to maybe come out even. I have had multiple pairs of lines since 05 all those skis still ride just fine. I love line and plan on buying them once in awhile until im done skiing.

All you guys that are saying that the k2 silencers are terrible skis are right and wrong.
This year's k2 silencers are great durable skis at a good price, compared to previous years' mediocre silencers.
If you want a stiffer ski go with the silencer and if you want a softer ski, go with the masterminds.

not hating on treecery, but i agree with this, it does suck that k2 owns line, but i like them much better then k2. my second fav brand would be bluehouse but its hard to get them around here

I got a pair of K2 silencers and they are awsome, I ski similarly to you in park and the silencers have been perfect and I have no complains about them besides the fact they scratch really easily, but mine are the 2008 version and im not too familiar with this years silencers, but ya they are really good I ski park, downhill or glades they work great anywhere on the hill

Get the Anthems super awsome all over the park and the mountin. mounted dead center is super awsome and its got nice flex and butter and no matter what kind of Anthem you get the desighns are sick!

this years silencers are totally different than the past years, they are actually built like the extremes but with rocker. they are pretty durable

Truth. 100% redesigned ski from what you had before.

Silencer is going to be snappier and more stable and has All-Terrain tip and tail rocker with camber underfoot.

Mastermind is going to be a bit softer.

Both are fun skis.

fully agree but i have armada arvs and there is only topsheet scrathes not base or edge damage and ridden hard!:0 i wanted moments tho

Of course it does. The only ski that does not have the same rocker tip and tail out of the twin tips is the obSETHed.

Starts off fairly stiff (I'd call it mid-stiff, so somewhere around the Wall in stiffness), but the rocker helps you butter, then breaks in nicely to somewhere a little bit stiffer than the mastermind. It's not a super soft ski, so you're not going to wash out as much, but it's also not a 2x4, which is nice.

When you're talking about the redesigned silencers are you talking about the 10/11 or 11/12 version, if that's even out yet.

I'm looking at park riding for a season in NZ and need a set of twin tips. They seem pretty good value at the moment with end of season sales kicking in. I'm 5ft 8, about 90kilos.

I've not done much park stuff before, hoping to learn this summer.

They were redesigned for the 10/11 season (with the rest of their park ski lineup), and I'm pretty sure they're unchanged for the 11/12 season. Awesome ski, great price, honestly I'd ride this park ski before some other companies "high end" park skis.
